Experience<strong>Torsten</strong> Lörcher has been working in the field of international arbitration for more than 20years. He has vast experience both as counsel and arbitrator in international arbitrationproceedings. He acted as counsel in more than 100 arbitrations and his experience asarbitrator comprises more than 40 cases under a large number of international rules. <strong>Torsten</strong>also has broad experience in the field of ADR (including mediation, conciliation, expertdetermination and adjudication) both as counsel and neutral.<strong>Torsten</strong> was born in England and raised in England and Germany. He read law at CologneUniversity and attended courses at the London School of Economics. Before being admittedto the German bar in 1999, he worked as research fellow for Professor Karl-HeinzBöckstiegel at the Institute for International Business of Cologne University. With ProfessorBöckstiegel, he wrote his doctoral thesis on International Dispute Resolution with ascholarship of Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (the governmental foundation providingscholarship for highly talented students). In 1999, he further worked for Jan Paulsson in Paris.His most recent practice as arbitrator and counsel has focused on energy-related disputes(plant engineering and construction, gas-price adaptation, offshore windparks, various aspectsof solar energy), financial services, post-M&A and commercial disputes. A strong focus of<strong>Torsten</strong>’s practice is to represent Asian clients in international arbitration proceedings.<strong>Torsten</strong> is regularly named in the legal directories as one of the leading German practitionersin the field of international arbitration (latest: Chambers Global and Europe 2013, Who is wholegal 2013, JUVE directory of German law firms 2012/2013, Best Lawyers 2013). He wasvoted by his peers onto the 2006 Global Arbitration Review “45 under 45” leading lights ofinternational arbitration. From 2001 until 2005, he was co-chair of the Young InternationalArbitration Group of the LCIA (LCIA YIAG) and founding co-chair of the DIS below 40group (from 2002 until 2007). He also was a member of the IBA Task Force on a Code ofEthics for Counsel in International Arbitration.Arbitrator Nominations<strong>Torsten</strong> has served as arbitrator in more than 40 cases (12 cases as presiding arbitrator, 7 casesas sole arbitrator and more than 25 cases as party-appointed arbitrator) under variousinstitutional rules and in ad-hoc arbitration with a focus on technology- and energy-relateddisputes as well as financial services, post-M&A and commercial disputes.
