My people are from <strong>the</strong> Copper River. My family is <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>House <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Owl. Child <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mohawk/People <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Flint Bear Clan. My grandfa<strong>the</strong>r’s(maternal) people are <strong>the</strong> Luxnaxadi. My great-grandfa<strong>the</strong>r (maternal) people are <strong>the</strong>Teikweidei. My people are from <strong>the</strong> villages <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Place Where <strong>the</strong> Canoes Rest, and<strong>the</strong> Ohsweken Canadian Reservation.Values In Action StatementIn order to grow and become experienced in working with different indigenous, I decidedto pursue my post-secondary education within a different indigenous population, in <strong>the</strong>Southwest United States. Not a day goes by where I do not long for <strong>the</strong> forests, rain andwaters <strong>of</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>ast Alaska. <strong>Sealaska</strong> Corporation has given me <strong>the</strong> ability to be backon our land, Haa Aaní. The aid in my travel for <strong>the</strong> <strong>interns</strong>hip, helped me be able tocome home and work in Juneau, where I could be on Haa Aaní and also have <strong>the</strong> abilityto do subsistence with my family in Yaakw.daat (Yakutat), both important components<strong>of</strong> my self-identification. Being back in Sou<strong>the</strong>ast Alaska has also helped me come to astate <strong>of</strong> Wooch.Yax: Balance, Reciprocity and Respect. I was able to find balance in myability to be home, and be in position where I could reciprocate to <strong>Sealaska</strong> HeritageInstitute and <strong>Sealaska</strong> Corporation for <strong>the</strong> scholarship that aided me during <strong>the</strong> schoolyear. As my <strong>interns</strong>hip has progressed, my position as <strong>Sealaska</strong> intern working for <strong>the</strong>Heritage Institute, gave me <strong>the</strong> ability to see <strong>the</strong> concept <strong>of</strong> Wooch.éen: workingtoge<strong>the</strong>r, where <strong>the</strong> collaboration benefited both institutions. I feel that <strong>the</strong> more thisinstitutional partnership is streng<strong>the</strong>ned, <strong>the</strong> more both can grow and expand. In
