Five drainage classes plus three l<strong>and</strong>classes are shown on this map.Very Poor - Water is removed from the soil so slowly that the watertable remains at or on the soil surface for the greater part <strong>of</strong> the timethe soil is not frozen. Excess water is present in the soil throughoutmost <strong>of</strong> the year.Poor - Water is removed so slowly in relation to supply that the soilremains wet for a large part <strong>of</strong> the time the soil is not frozen.Excess water is available within the soil for a large part <strong>of</strong> the time.Poor, drained - Water is removed slowly in relation to supply <strong>and</strong>the soil remains wet for a significant portion <strong>of</strong> the growing season.Although these soils may retain characteristics <strong>of</strong> poor internaldrainage, extensive surface drainage improvements enable thesesoils to be used for annual crop production.Imperfect - Water is removed from the soil sufficiently slowly inrelation to supply to keep the soil wet for a significant part <strong>of</strong> thegrowing season. Excess water moves slowly down the pr<strong>of</strong>ile ifprecipitation is the major source.Well - Water is removed from the soil readily but not rapidly.Excess water flows downward readily into underlying materials orlaterally as subsurface flow.Table 3.
