Lee Anderson hasrecently joined the elite groupof ACBL members who haveearned over 7500 masterpoints.Fort Walton Beach celebratedhis achievement in May withan Emerald Life Master party.Lee's life resume is filled withaccomplishments that includefamily, Air Force career and,of course, duplicate bridge! He has beenplaying bridge on and off for 57 yearsstarting in college at South Dakota StateUniversity. His bridge took off after theAir Force re-assigned him to Eglin and heretired from active duty in 1980. With amere 250 masterpoints, Lee's steady rise inthe bridge ranks began when he met somekey bridge friends.Lee became part of a team that includedJeri and John Arnold and Gene Metz, aretired Auburn professor who has sincepassed away. They played in team eventsall over the Southeast from Atlanta toNew Orleans to Orlando. In 1985 Leebegan playing with Dora Ellen Smith whobecame Dora Ellen Anderson in 1990.Their partnership has remained strongand competitive and together they havewon over 5000 points. A highlight of theirshared bridge experiences occurred at theBirmingham Regional where they wonfour events. Lee recalls another memorablebridge experience with his wife thatfollowed a few years after Birmingham. Heand Dora Ellen were playing on a six-manteam at a Tunica Regional when at half-timethey learned their team was down 46 IMPs.Not too surprising since Jeff Meckstrothhappen to be one of the opponents duringthe first half. Lee and Dora Ellen and theirteam were not deterred, played well againstopponents that included AlanSontag and Paul Soloway duringthe second half, and clinched thewin. Imagine having to wake Jeffup to tell him his team had lost! But, Lee knew at that time howlucky he was to have the experienceof playing against such formidableopponents and winning. In hiswords: "I have been blessed with wonderfulteammates and partners throughout mybridge career, too many to list, but at least letme say THANK YOU SO MUCH!"Lee had a distinguished career in the AirForce and continues to work part-time asa consultant to the Air Force. A father andgrandfather, Lee enjoys visiting his twoyoung grandchildren, Reid and Reagan inJacksonville, Florida and 16 year old twins,Ryan and Lauren in Greer, South Carolina. In between work, family and bridge, Leevolunteers as treasurer to the Holy TrinityLutheran Church Council and to the FortWalton Beach Bridge Club. He loves toread and attend plays and musicals, buthis favorite pastime besides bridge withDora Ellen is dining with Dora Ellen. Thisis not surprising given Lee's advice to allbridge players: "I believe if you play bridge, you should have fun. Enjoy your partners--Bridge is definitely a partnership game." Lee,we congratulate you on achieving EmeraldLife Master and thank you for your serviceto our country, community and bridgeclub. We are looking forward to yourGrand Life Master party!Unit 219 – Page 45
