Vicksburg is a city in the state of Mississippi, located 234 miles (377 km) northwest of New Orleans on
the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers, and 40 miles (64 km) due west of Jackson, the state capital. In 1900,
14,834 people lived in Vicksburg; and at the 2000 census, the population was 26,407. According to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.3 square miles (91 km 2), of which 32.9 square
miles (85.2 km²) is land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km 2) (6.78%) is water.

New Orleans is a major U.S. port and the largest city in the state of Louisiana. The city is named after
