<strong>2010</strong> annual report13LCELP Life Cycle Executive Leadership ProgramThe Life Cycle Executive Leadership Program (LCELP) is designed <strong>for</strong> leaders challenged withdeveloping, managing, and/or implementing life cycle plans or policies within their organizations and <strong>for</strong>their customers.LIFE CYCLE SYSTEMS AND ENGINEERINGLife Cycle Systems and Engineering is IDB’s newest focus area.Developed in response to industry requests and military requirements<strong>for</strong> educational programs focused on life cycle management andthe total cost of ownership <strong>for</strong> products and systems, this suite ofprograms exemplifies the concept of building and expanding a pivotaltopic from the Logistics and Technology focus area into a stand-aloneconcentration area.Following a successful introduction in 2009, IDB delivered two LCELPcourses in <strong>2010</strong>. Both offerings featured academic, corporate, andmilitary perspectives and discussion on life cycle issues from leadingfaculty and subject matter experts.LCELPThe one-week Life Cycle Executive Leadership Program focuses on thebusiness aspects of life cycle design and support decisions and is <strong>for</strong>managers in both the technical and business sides of acquiring andsustaining systems.LCELP students work to prepare their team brief…...and receive feedback from VADM (Ret.) Paul SullivanMLCSE and BeyondIDB Senior Faculty Member Joe Grosson explains equations that describe the lifecycle trade space in March <strong>2010</strong>The target audience <strong>for</strong> this program includes those involved inacquisition, logistics, sustainment, and engineering from the DoD &military services, civilian government departments, and the privatesector. The program is designed <strong>for</strong> both non-engineers and engineersinterested in developing a deeper understanding of life cycle theories,practices, and techniques. The program emphasizes the businessaspects of life cycle design and support decisions.Currently under development and tentatively offered <strong>for</strong> 2012, the Mastersof Life Cycle Systems Engineering (MLCSE) is a technical, 16-monthdegree program <strong>for</strong> practicing engineersdesigned to capitalize on the business ofreducing cost of ownership. The life cyclecurricula <strong>for</strong> both the one-week LCELP and16-month master’s program are the product of the partnership betweenthe IDB and two schools in the University of North Carolina system: NCState University and NC A&T University.Another developing academic relationship holds promise <strong>for</strong> the lifecycle focus area at IDB—a partnership with the <strong>Defense</strong> AcquisitionUniversity (DAU). IDB and DAU are in discussions to draft an agreementthat would support the education offerings of both organizationsthrough the exchange of students, instructors, and curriculum elements.Not only beneficial to the life cycle–focused programs of DAU and IDB,this partnership has the potential to strengthen curriculum at bothorganizations.
