<strong>Manby</strong> <strong>Estate</strong> is one of the largest woodland <strong>Estate</strong>s <strong>in</strong>L<strong>in</strong>colnshire, runn<strong>in</strong>g to a total of 985.60 acres (398.87ha), ofwhich approximately 968 acres are wooded.The <strong>Estate</strong> is located immediately to the west and north of thevillage of Broughton and is approximately six miles by road fromcentral Scunthorpe. Alder Woodland is a scarce habitat <strong>in</strong> <strong>North</strong> L<strong>in</strong>colnshire.The second SSSI is comb<strong>in</strong>ed of two sites totall<strong>in</strong>g 41.7 acres,first notified <strong>in</strong> 1957. Far Wood forms part of Lot 4 and has beendesignated as a SSSI due to its varied plant life.
