National <strong>Intelligence</strong> Model1.2.5 In the case <strong>of</strong> the National Crime Squad and the National Criminal <strong>Intelligence</strong>Service, references in this code to chief <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> police apply to the DirectorsGeneral <strong>of</strong> those organisations, and references to forces shall include the NationalCrime Squad and the National Criminal <strong>Intelligence</strong> Service.1.2.6 Should the definition <strong>of</strong> police forces under section 1 <strong>of</strong> the Police Act 1996change, and should there be changes to the present constitution <strong>of</strong> the NationalCrime Squad or the National Criminal <strong>Intelligence</strong> Service, the Secretary <strong>of</strong> Statemay revise this code to ensure the application <strong>of</strong> the code to the chief <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong>those forces.1.2.7 It is available for adoption by other police forces in England and Wales, and byother jurisdictions within the United Kingdom.1.3 Diversity issues under this code1.3.1 In the application <strong>of</strong> the National <strong>Intelligence</strong> Model issues relevant to all areas <strong>of</strong>diversity and culture, such as race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation,gender identity and age, will be taken into account. This principle applies toequipment and personnel selection procedures and in the application <strong>of</strong> thebusiness model.1.4 Procedures covered by this code1.4.1 This code applies to intelligence and information used to direct police activitythrough a planned and systematic business process.1.4.2 Guidance on the use <strong>of</strong> covert human intelligence sources and dedicated sourceunits is set out in the ACPO Manual <strong>of</strong> Standards for the Use <strong>of</strong> Covert Human<strong>Intelligence</strong> Sources and is not otherwise dealt with in this code.1.5 Confidentiality1.5.1 In laying this code <strong>of</strong> practice before Parliament, the Secretary <strong>of</strong> State declaresthat nothing in this code is <strong>of</strong> a confidential nature.3
