DEAN OF STUDENTSDeans solve problems from gambling to hemlinesVIRGIL H. LAWYER fills the dual role of Deanof Students and Director of Admissions. However.this year in addition to these responsibilities, heserved as acting Dean of "Vomen and coach of thecross-country team. Guiding the cross-countryteam to an AIC victory, Lawyer traveled with theboys to Omaha, Nebraska; Springfield, MissoUl~;Bowling Green, Kentucky and Oklahoma City.Oklahoma. Acting as Dean of Women has posedseveral problems such as enforcing curfew andespecially suggesting lower hemlines. This yearfound Lawyer wearing a more harried look on hisface as he keeps up with 1900 students. Nonethe·less, Lawyer, assisted by Eddie Campbell, still con·tinues to direct the recmitment of future students.CARL LEE ALLISON vitally aided the formationof TTarding's first dormitory council. Throughoutthe year Dean Allison gained the respect of thestudellt body by the understanding way he di s('harged his duties as Dean of Men.Dean Allison is a member of the ArkansasCoaches Association, the NATA Baseball CoachesAssociation and the Arkansas Officials Association.Mr. Al1ison is assistant athletic director. basebal1coach and advisor on veteran's affairs. BUSINESS MANAGERBusiness Manager aids investigation of burglaryLOTT R. TUCKER, JR., aided the police in aninvestigation of the $371.00 robbery of the businessoffice on November sixth. The thieves broke openthe safe in expectation of the week-end footballgame receipts. However, this additional $1,000 wasnot there, since the receipts were not turned in untilthe following morning.As Business Manager, Mr. Tucker is responsiblefor all <strong>Harding</strong> business operations, managing abudget of approximately $5,000,000 for 1967-68.He is responsible for budgeting, purchasing, accounting,construction, maintenance of buildingsand grounds. investment of endowment funds, andmanagement of non-academic personnel. Mr.Tucker is a Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Internationaland he is a board member of the SearcyChamber of Comm erce and the Searcy FederalSavings and Loan Association.REGISTRARLOTT TUCKER , BABeckett's study expedites registration problemsVIRGIL M. BECKETT has been able to ex pedite<strong>Harding</strong>'s registration problems greatly througha study of methods and procedures. With an enlargedenrollment, such a study has increased efficiency.The growth of the registrar's duties necessitatedthe addition of William T. Wallace as Assistantto the Registrar during the 1967 summersession.Registrar Beckett also h as been able to increasehis services as Registrar through additional usesof the IBM equipment that was installed a yearago.Mr. Beckett is a recent past president of theArkansas Association of Collegiate Registrars andAdmissions Officers.
