ING-DiBa working together with SIX Telekurs
When quality stands for simplicity and value for money.
SIX Telekurs is in the process of carrying out two
major projects with one of Germany’s most popular
banks. The first is a market information site, and
the second an online brokerage tool which comes
with data supplied by SIX Telekurs.
Clarity, transparency and commitment
ING-DiBa is Germany’s largest direct bank, which
has been hailed by the business magazine €uro as
Germany’s “most popular bank” for the fourth year
running. The readers of Börse Online voted ING-DiBa
the “Online Broker of the Year 2010”. As if that were
not enough, ING-DiBa also ranks amongst the best
employers in Germany. With more than 7 million customers,
it is also one of the largest retail banks in the
Federal Republic. Its core business areas are savings,
securities, construction financing, consumer loans,
and current accounts. ING-DiBa eschews the traditional
model of an expensive branch network. Clarity,
transparency and cost efficiency are the hallmarks of
its services. Customers benefit from clearly structured
products, streamlined processes, and direct communication.
The slogan “simple, quick and value for money”
lies at the core of the bank’s philosophy.
Performance, usability and quality
ING-DiBa has been working with SIX Telekurs for more
than two years. Following the acquisition of an online
broker, ING-DiBa was confronted with the problem
of two existing infrastructures in its online market information
area. Prices were obtained from two dif-
ferent sources, resulting in the doubling of costs and
a large number of inconsistencies. The search for a
suitable partner to help them implement a new and
better solution led them to SIX Telekurs. The financial
information provider’s trump card was its promise of
cost-efficiency and technical sophistication. On the
one hand, the market information website (a public
area) needed a new design, a better overview, more
sophisticated search functions, and a clearer presentation
of securities information. On the other hand,
the online brokerage area of ING-DiBa (a closed area)
had to now include the real-time price information in
Market Data Feed (MDF) from SIX Telekurs, replacing
Thomson-Reuters’ market information.
Making information intuitively accessible
The main challenge for the design of the market information
website related primarily to aspects requiring
specialist expertise. Questions such as how can large
volumes of information be presented in a way that allows
a clear overview, and how can one ensure that
all visitors – from the layman to the professional – can
find the information they need intuitively, had to be
answered.

A better overview has now been delivered thanks
to our new design. Optimized search functions help
users to find the information they are looking for
quickly. Thanks to a much clearer presentation of
securities information, the “way the customer thinks”
is once again at the heart of things. The new market
information site (https:// wertpapiere.ing-diba.de) is not
only highly innovative but also offers remarkably quick
response times. Benchmarking studies have already
shown that ING-DiBa has gained significant ground
against the competition thanks to the new solution realized
via the apiD interface.
Leading online brokerage tool
The replacement of the Thomson-Reuters feed in the
online brokerage tool presented complex technical issues.
Together with the company Targit, SIX Telekurs
further developed the existing middleware component
that underpinned the online brokerage tool. ING-DiBa
was offered a new solution based on its existing infrastructure,
which dispensed with the need to change
over to an entirely new system. SIX Telekurs’ Market
Data Feed product (MDF), which supplies comprehensive
market information in real-time, was loaded
into the application over the course of two months,
whilst the existing feed was still running. The response
times and the reliability of the new solution were tested
rigorously during this parallel operational phase. The
800,000 or so brokerage clients of ING-DiBa are now
working with the market information from SIX Telekurs.
The new, high-performance and real-time solution is
“The SIX Telekurs solution was highly convincing
from both a technical and commercial perspective.
Thanks to the innovations implemented, we
now play a leading role in the online brokerage
area of the German market.”
Thomas Dwornitzak,
Head of Securities Business Development, ING-DiBa
impressive both because of its reliability and stability
as well as of its quality of information. It runs on
dedicated, externally-hosted servers with high availability.
In the words of Thomas Dwornitzak, Head of
Securities Business Development at ING-DiBa “Our
decision to choose SIX Telekurs as a ‘single point of
entry’ has proven to be the right one. The new solution
now means that ING-DiBa is the leader in the German
market when it comes to usability and structure.”
