It alsoallows multiple distributed receivers in awide area (e.g. HandHeld Receivers) tosimultaneously receive the microwavedownlink signal.Together, the High Gain and Omni-Directionalantennas provide both maximum range andtactical performance.Digital TransmissionThe MX-POD transmits the microwave signalproduced by a COFDM digital transmitter unitwithin the aircraft. The COFDM transmitterprovides digital high quality video, audio anddata, fully encrypted signal transmissionsunder difficult conditions. Image reception isalso possible under non-line-of-sightconditions (for short range transmission).Automatic Antenna SteeringThe communications, antenna steering andcontrol are integrated into WESCAM’sMX turrets. Control of the steerable antenna isbased upon high accuracy aircraft position andheading information from the MX-GEO's GPSand inertial navigation units. No additionalexternal gyro's, compass or compasscalibrations are required. For long rangetransmission to steerable antenna fixedground receive sites, aircraft position isdownlinked, which enables automatic receivesite tracking of the aircraft.MX FamilyThe MX turret integration controls theMX-POD. The integration of camera andantenna control, overlay generation, videodistribution and switching in a single unitsignificantly reduces overall systemcomplexity and weight.
