Attendeesenjoyed joking, dancingand laughing with Stevenas everyone had a gre<strong>at</strong>time.Bowers is lookingforward to enjoying the prime side of life – withfriends and family.Big Cypress Family Roller DanceBy Melissa ShermanHOLLYWOOD — The stork has onceagain circled around the Hollywood Tribal Offices.The notorious bird is ready to deliver another bundleof joy to Belinda Fernandez, BenefitsCoordin<strong>at</strong>or in the Human Resource Department.On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Tribal Councilthrew a baby shower for the expecting mom.Hostesses Jennifer Keefe and Cecelia “Tina” Baileyorganized the event <strong>at</strong> the old Hotmeals building.Inside, Keefe and Bailey transformed theold building, garnishing it with balloons and confettiand “Welcome Baby Boy” signs. Keefe showedoff her many talents with party favor diapers shemade from paper towels and wax. Keefe alsostuffed the favors with M&M’s®; they were the hitof the party.More than 30 tribal citizens and employees<strong>at</strong>tended the celebr<strong>at</strong>ion with gifts in hand, fromdiapers to diaper pails, blue bibs and blankets, evena stroller, purchased for her as a group gift.As the shower came to an end, Fernandezgracefully thanked everyone who <strong>at</strong>tended, and alsothanked the Tribal Council for all of their generosity.Fernandez has worked for the tribe forthree years now. This was a first of amonthly series of “Cool Events for the Entire Family” sponsoredby the Recre<strong>at</strong>ion Department.The gym was transformed into a roller rink, togetherwith colored lights, music and a live DJ. In addition, there Let’s roll!Nery Mejicanowas face painting, contests and prizes for those <strong>at</strong>tending andrefreshments and food. The kids and parents had a gre<strong>at</strong> timeand hope to continue to see more of these events.Programs such as these help provide healthy structured and supervised altern<strong>at</strong>ives to families andtheir children closer to home. For example, the closest roller rink is 65 miles away from Big Cypress residents.Bringing activities to the Big Cypress Reserv<strong>at</strong>ion is welcome and enjoyed by all.
