If you are a cancer patient at the QEII Hospital <strong>in</strong> <strong>Halifax</strong>, and you need a place <strong>to</strong> stay<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g your treatment, you can stay at The Lodge That Gives or Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant<br />

Lodge. Both are located close <strong>to</strong> the hospital. If you need a place <strong>to</strong> stay, please let the<br />

book<strong>in</strong>g clerk know when you are called with your treatment schedule and they will<br />

contact one of the Lodges <strong>to</strong> book you <strong>in</strong> for your stay. The cost of these Lodges is<br />

covered for the patient dur<strong>in</strong>g treatment at the hospital. Please note the cost is not<br />

covered for a support person who stays with you, except <strong>in</strong> specific situations.<br />

The Lodge That Gives is located beh<strong>in</strong>d the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre. There are<br />

s<strong>in</strong>gle and double rooms with private washrooms. A family member or support person<br />

can stay for $55 per night. In certa<strong>in</strong> situations, that fee may be waived (e.g. parents<br />

com<strong>in</strong>g with a child, caregiver of a transplant patient, or families with f<strong>in</strong>ancial hardship).<br />

First time reservations must be made by the follow<strong>in</strong>g people <strong>to</strong> have the cost covered:<br />

• A book<strong>in</strong>g clerk at the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre<br />

• A family physician<br />

• A cancer specialist<br />

• A Cancer Patient naviga<strong>to</strong>r<br />

Park<strong>in</strong>g at the Lodge is limited. It is available on a first come, first served basis. Meals<br />

are provided at no cost. The Lodge also offers <strong>in</strong>ternet, hairdress<strong>in</strong>g, support groups<br />

and activities.

Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge is located one block from the QEII Hospital. It is with<strong>in</strong> walk<strong>in</strong>g<br />

distance but a shuttle bus is also available <strong>to</strong> and from the hospital. A book<strong>in</strong>g clerk<br />

from the QEII Hospital MUST book your room at Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge for the cost <strong>to</strong> be<br />

covered dur<strong>in</strong>g your stay.<br />

A support person can stay for $40.25 per night (rate subject <strong>to</strong><br />

change). To receive this rate, the book<strong>in</strong>g clerk at the hospital needs <strong>to</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude the<br />

support person when call<strong>in</strong>g Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge <strong>to</strong> make the book<strong>in</strong>g, so if someone<br />

is stay<strong>in</strong>g with you dur<strong>in</strong>g treamtnet please let the book<strong>in</strong>g clerk know when you are<br />

called with your treatment schedule. If the person com<strong>in</strong>g with you is noted as an<br />

“essential” escort for medical reasons by the book<strong>in</strong>g clerk then the cost of their stay<br />

may also be covered. Please letthe book<strong>in</strong>g clerk know if you need the person with you<br />

for medical reasons.<br />

You must contact Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge before 10 a.m. on the day of your arrival<br />

<strong>to</strong> confirm you are still com<strong>in</strong>g and keep your room book<strong>in</strong>g. There is limited<br />

park<strong>in</strong>g at Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge. The cost of park<strong>in</strong>g is $11.50/day plus tax. Park<strong>in</strong>g is<br />

available on a first come, first served basis. Most of the rooms are double rooms.<br />

Patients who are stay<strong>in</strong>g at the Lodge on their own may be asked <strong>to</strong> share a double<br />

room with someone of the same gender. There is a charge for meals. Meal vofuchers<br />

for cancer patients and essential escorts, <strong>to</strong> a maximum of (2) $5 vouchers per day, per<br />

person are available through the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre. You pick up the meal<br />

vouchers each day you come for treatment, at the reception desk when you check <strong>in</strong> for<br />

treatment. The meal vouchers can be used at either Po<strong>in</strong>t Pleasant Lodge or the<br />

hospital cafeteria.<br />

Places that Offer Hospital Patient Discounts<br />

These hotels, <strong>in</strong>ns, and bed and breakfasts offer discounts or special rates for hospital<br />

patients. When you book, tell the clerk that you are a patient at the hospital or a family<br />

member. They will let you know if they need any paperwork <strong>to</strong> give you a special rate.<br />
