The Legacy SocietyIn 2010, more than 30 nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations and 250 staff and board members learnedabout the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s Legacy Society in <strong>Howard</strong>, Carroll and Clinton counties. TheLegacy Society, a special honorary organization, was created to encourage estate planningto strengthen and provide permanent financial stability for a variety <strong>of</strong> funds established bydonors to support charitable endeavors that benefit the comm<strong>unity</strong>.The nonpr<strong>of</strong>it staffs and board members attended an informational lunch meeting heldin each county to learn more about the Legacy Society and how they can partner with the<strong>Foundation</strong> to work with donors to establish endowed funds through legacy gifts.These gifts can help to leave a lasting impact on the people and places in the comm<strong>unity</strong>.Through the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s Legacy Society and the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations, services arebeing provided that strengthen families, enrich youth, support the elderly and disabled,protect the environment, award scholarships, enhance culture and preserve history.A legacy gift can be made to one or more <strong>of</strong> the existing funds in the <strong>Foundation</strong> or can beused to establish a new fund to support the charitable organization <strong>of</strong> the donor’s choice.There are several ways this can be done.
