Ways to GiveThe Community Foundation is a flexible vehicle for charitable gifts of all sizes, from public, corporate, foundation, or private sources.Both large and small gifts can take a variety of forms; depending on tax and estate planning priorities. Gifts can be made with:• Cash• Appreciated Securities• Life Insurance• Real Estate• Bequests• Private Foundation TransferDonors can give to an existing fund in the Foundation or create their own “named fund” with a gift of $5,000 or more. Donorsestablishing named funds can name them after themselves, a loved one, their company, as a memorial or tribute, or use someother name that is meaningful to them. Funds may be advised, designated to a particular charity or church, or to support fields ofinterest, or scholarships.IRA 401(k), or Other Qualified Retirement PlanPlanned giving is as easy as designating a percentage of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified retirement plan to the Foundation as abeneficiary.Sample Bequest LanguageI give, devise and bequeath to the Community Foundation of Howard County, Inc., an Indiana not-for-profit charitablecorporation, which serves as the community foundation for the area, fill in the blank with one of the following three choices:1.) the sum of $___________; 2.) ____________% of my estate; or 3.) “all of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, ofwhatsoever kind and nature and wheresoever situate in which I may have any right, title or interest, or over which I may have anypower of appointment at the time of my death” to hold, manage, invest and reinvest the same, to collect the income and to payfor and disburse the “income” for public and charitable uses and purposes, in accordance with the policies of the CommunityFoundation of Howard County, Inc., in effect from time to time.If the amount of the bequest meets the minimum contribution requirement for the establishment of a new fund ($5,000), thedonor may elect to create a separately identifiable fund by name and purpose. Contact the Foundation for information.Other Planned GiftsThe Foundation also offers donors several other types of gift arrangements that provide a variety of tax advantages and incomebenefits to donors, and provide needed charitable resources for the community. We offer:Charitable Gift AnnuityThis is a contract between the donor and the Foundation. Inexchange for the donor’s irrevocable gift, the Foundation agreesto pay one or two annuitants the donor names, a fixed sum eachyear for life. The payments are guaranteed by the Foundation.The percentage of income you receive is determined by yourage (or ages for a two-life annuity*).Single Life Annuity RatesAGE ESTIMATED PAYMENT RATE90 9.8%85 8.4%80 7.5%75 6.5%70 5.8%Contact us for an estimate of your charitable tax deduction andincome projections. We subscribe to the rates recommended bythe American Council on Gift Annuities. These rates are subjectto change annually.*Rates for two-life annuities are slightly lower.Charitable Remainder Trust (Life Income)This allows the donor to provide income to themselves orothers for life or a term of years. Trust donors irrevocablytransfer assets to the trustees of their choice. During the trust’sterm, the trustee invests the trust’s assets and pays income (afixed percentage of the trust’s value annually if a unitrust and afixed dollar amount if an annuity trust) to one or more incomebeneficiaries named by the donor. When the trust term ends,the trust’s principal passes to the Foundation to be used for thecharitable purpose that the donor designates.Charitable Lead Trust (“Wait-a-While” Trust)During the trust’s term (usually a set number of years) thetrustee invests the trust’s assets and pays the income to theFoundation for the purpose the donor designates. When thetrust term ends, all assets are distributed to family members orother beneficiaries named by the donor.Retained Life EstateThis allows donors to give their home or farm to theFoundation, while retaining the right to live in it for the rest oftheir lives. When the retained life estate ends, the Foundationcan then use the property or the proceeds from its sale for thepurpose the donor designates.5
