EXTRAORDINARY CAREERMeeting the needs of healthcareChamberlain’s administration, faculty and staff are aggressively confrontingthe pressing issues currently facing the healthcare community. By forgingrelationships within healthcare organizations, individual facilities, hospitalnetworks, community colleges and national organizations, such as theAmerican Nurses Association (ANA), Chamberlain is preparing new nursesfor the challenges they will face and enabling practicing nurses to fill keyleadership roles and advance care.Addressing the national nursing shortageWith healthcare reform generating a need for broader population care, nursesare playing a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery. Since 2004,Chamberlain has supported this movement by conferring over 9,800 undergraduateand graduate nursing degrees * and has expanded nursing education today to ensurea healthier tomorrow. The impending national nursing shortage and the evolving healthcare delivery modelmean a world of career opportunities for the nursing field. As a result, the number ofunique career paths for nurses is growing and will continue to grow as nurses takeon expanded roles in healthcare delivery. Nurses have an unlimited choice of workenvironments, with options ranging from busy emergency rooms, clinics, hospitalsor surgicenters, schools, physicians’ offices, pediatric environments and the military. They can even pursue research, legal nursing, community service, informatics, acorporate environment or healthcare policy.Whether launching a career or advancing an education, the possibilitiesfor a career in nursing continue to grow over the span of a nurse’s career.chamberlain.edu/nursingcareersBE THE DIFFERENCE* Chamberlain College of Nursing graduates since 2004, Chamberlain National Registrar, July 2012.CHAMBERLAIN COLLEGE OF NURSING VIEWBOOK 2013-20143

EXTRAORDINARY CAREERInvesting in your futureNursing provides the opportunity to earn a living by making an impact on society. It is estimated that, over a lifetime, those with abachelor’s degree will make almost a quarter of a million dollars more than those withan associate degree. That estimate increased by another half a million dollars for thoseattaining a master’s degree. 2But the argument for advancing your nursing degree goes farther than simple incomeconsiderations. A report assessing the future of nursing determined that, in order for thenation to provide “seamless, affordable, quality care that is accessible to all and leadsto improved health outcomes,” it is necessary for nurses to “achieve higher levels ofeducation and training.” Nurses and nursing students can and should play a fundamentalrole in this transformation. 3chamberlain.edu/nursingcareersBE VITAL1 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, May 2011.2 Collegeboard, Education Pays 2010.3 The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation(RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), October 5, 2010.CHAMBERLAIN COLLEGE OF NURSING VIEWBOOK 2013-20145
