Recognizing the Letter “H”Introduce the letter “H” to the children byshowing them the written word “Heart” andhelping them to see that it begins with a “H”.Cut a large Heart shape out of paper and writethe letter “H” on it. HandsAsk the children to carefully trace one of theirhands and cut out the tracing. Have them writetheir names on the cutouts and keep them toattach to and identify artwork throughout theyear.HugChildren trace and cut out each hand, andattach each hand to opposite ends of a longpiece of string. They can send this "hug" to arelative that perhaps does not live nearby orgive it to a parent.Heart puzzleCut out an outline of a 10 inch heart out ofwhite construction paper for each child. Miniature HatsPrepare hats for the class to decorate bymelting Styrofoam cups in a 350 degree oven.Place the cups on a cookie sheet and set themin the oven for 30-60 seconds.(This goes very quick once it starts.)Have the children decorate them by drawing onthem with markers and by tying yard or ribbonaround them.
