Innovative ProductsSMARTBOLT TMFor most general engineering applications, the variable relationship betweentorque and tension is an acceptable method of measuring preload in a bolt.However, in critical bolted joints, the error in this method (+/- 25%) is too muchto ensure the integrity of the assembly, and a far more accurate method isneeded. In response, Ajax developed the SMARTBOLT TM tension-sensingsystemSMARTBOLT TM technology can be fi tted to existing bolts, which meansthat there is no need for engineering changes to the original structure ordesign. SMARTBOLTTM is reusable and provides an accuracy of +/- 3-5% onmeasurements taken subsequent to the initial tensioning. This allows in-placemonitoring and provides a picture of how the forces are distributed within ajoint.DOGSCREW TMONESIDE TMAFI was instrumental in the development of the successful ONESIDE TMblind structural fastening system.
