The organizationis “dedicated to the recognitionof outstanding professionalachievement and meritoriousservice and the continuedprogress of the profession ofdentistry for the benefit of allhumankind.” About 5,000 ofthe ICD’s 12,000 membersworldwide are in the UnitedStates. Roberson assumes thepresidency at the 2009 AmericanDental Association’s annualsession. He has given updatesin clinical operative dentistryin Lima, Peru, and Santiago,Chile, among his ICD-relatedprofessional activities.■ ■ ■1977 ■ ■ ■David J. Dobson, DDS, soldhis practice in Chapel Hill inMarch 2008 and is “now happilyretired.”Charles “Chuck” Norman,DDS, was installed as a trustee ofthe American Dental Associationdistrict during the ADA’s 149thAnnual Session in October 2008.Norman, who practices generaldentistry in Greensboro, N.C.,will serve on the ADA Board asthe trustee from the 16th District(representing Virginia, NorthCarolina and South Carolina.)The ADA Board formulates andreviews policies and programsand makes recommendationsto the members of the ADA'sgoverning body, the House ofDelegates. His previous ADAroles include chairing theCouncil on Dental Practice,the Well Being Committee andthe Dental Practice IndicatorsCommittee. He was also amember of the ADA Committeeto Study Alternative Pathwaysfor Dental Hygiene Training.Norman served as a delegate tothe ADA House for 14 years.■ ■ ■1982 ■ ■ ■John F. Dr. Ben Smithis the immediate past presidentof the UNC Dental AlumniAssociation and serves on theNorth Carolina Dental Society’sBoard of Trustees. Dr. Lyn Smithcurrently serves on the UNCDental Alumni Association’sBoard of Directors and is a pastpresident of the North CarolinaAcademy of General Dentistry.They have practiced generaldentistry in Mount Airy, N.C.,for 18 years.■ ■ ■1993 ■ ■ ■Stanley K. Clayton, DDS,recently completed a trip toGermany for Kettenbach GmbH,a German dental materialsmanufacturer. He held a meeting,in German, for clinicians andprofessors who are testing a newpolyvinyl/polyether.
