The book, available on September 1, will be publishedby The Crossroad Publishing Company.Tea Party Catholic draws upon Catholic socialteaching, natural law theory, and the lifeand work of the only Catholic signer of theDeclaration of Independence, Charles Carrollof Carrollton.Archbishop of Sydney, Australia, CardinalGeorge Pell, had this to say about Gregg’s newwork, “In Centesimus Annus, Blessed John PaulII called for a ‘society of free work, enterpriseand participation.’ In Tea Party Catholic, SamuelGregg has put flesh on the skeleton. His workwill reignite interest in the critical notion ofthe common good. Furthermore, it will helpeducate upcoming generations about the richness, diversity, and necessity of Catholic socialteaching. It is a remarkably good read!”In a July 1 essay for Intercollegiate Review,Gregg had this to say:“Today Charles Carroll is primarilyremembered as the only Catholic to signthe Declaration of Independence. Ratherfewer people know that Carroll was alsoa strong believer in economic freedom—and not merely because he recognized allthe economic problems associated withwhat Adam Smith called “the mercantilesystem” that dominated Europe from the1500s until the end of the 18th century.Carroll’s commitment to economic libertywas also, in all likelihood, influenced bythe moral teachings of his faith.”Tea Party Catholic, which follows Gregg’s successfulpublication Becoming Europe, will beavailable through the Acton Book Shop as wellas major book retailers.Acton in the News“In that sense, the Catholic understandingof poverty reminds us thatit’s divine mercy rather than justicethat truly saves us.”—Excerpted from Samuel Gregg’sarticle in Crisis Magazine.Samuel GreggTitle: Two Popes, but One FaithPublication: National Review OnlineDate: 7.05.13Samuel GreggTitle: Pope Francis and the TrueMeaning of PovertyPublication: Crisis MagazineDate: 6.05.13Jordan BallorTitle: Avoiding Confusionism:Liberty and Civil SocietyPublication: Cato UnboundDate: 5.13.13
