Theaim is to strengthen the connection betweenIsraelis and their brethren overseasthrough visits and joint educationaland cultural programmes.Mickey Blumberg, who had beenthe Director of the South Africa/Washington partnership with BeitShemesh/Mateh Yehuda region, is todayTelfed’s volunteer in this programmeworking together with Dorron Kline,Telfed’s Deputy Director.In August, a delegation of five educators,including Howie Gordon fromKibbutz Tzora visited South Africa.The purpose of this delegation “wasone of peoplehood and identity,” explainsHowie, Living Bridge Coordinator.“We met with the principal and staffof the King David Linksfield PrimarySchool which is twinning with HartuvElementary School, and the principal andstaff of Herzilya Middle School which istwinning with the Ein Kerem Junior High.Fifteen participants from the JewishDay Schools in Johannesburg, Cape Townand Port Elizabeth made it through tothe final round which consisted of writtenand oral components, combiningaudio visual and “rapid fire” questionsrelating to the history and accomplishmentsof modern Zionism.
