Theaim is to strengthen the connection betweenIsraelis <strong>and</strong> their brethren overseasthrough visits <strong>and</strong> joint educational<strong>and</strong> cultural programmes.Mickey Blumberg, who had beenthe Director of the South Africa/Washington partnership with BeitShemesh/Mateh Yehuda region, is today<strong>Telfed</strong>’s volunteer in this programmeworking together with Dorron Kline,<strong>Telfed</strong>’s Deputy Director.In August, a delegation of five educators,including Howie Gordon fromKibbutz Tzora visited South Africa.The purpose of this delegation “wasone of peoplehood <strong>and</strong> identity,” explainsHowie, Living Bridge Coordinator.“We met with the principal <strong>and</strong> staffof the King David Linksfield PrimarySchool which is twinning with HartuvElementary School, <strong>and</strong> the principal <strong>and</strong>staff of Herzilya Middle School which istwinning with the Ein Kerem Junior High.Fifteen participants from the JewishDay Schools in Johannesburg, Cape Town<strong>and</strong> Port Elizabeth made it through tothe final round which consisted of written<strong>and</strong> oral components, combiningaudio visual <strong>and</strong> “rapid fire” questionsrelating to the history <strong>and</strong> accomplishmentsof modern Zionism.
