3Similarly, it has been a joy to see the ISB community’s generosity in helping the efforts inHaiti via the Red Cross. Thank you to Leigh Doherty and Marti Lemp for the opportunitiesI’ve had to share my photos and stories from Haiti with the 3 rd to 7 th graders at ISB. Thestudents showed great concern and sensitivity for the people in Haiti while discussing largetopics such as generosity, happiness, dignity, and materialism.I hope that the ISB community and the rest of the world will continue to show generosityto the people of Haiti during the long process of healing and rebuilding.Thank you for all you have already done!Grade 4 teacher, Alexis KruzaISB ACCEPTS NEW HAITIAN STUDENTSThe Admissions Department reports that ISB has accepted 4 students coming from Haiti inour Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. These children have been welcomed to Boston bytheir family members or friends who already live here. We have all been impressed by theirgentle willingness to adapt to their new environment and to eagerly continue with theirstudies. Some have told us that they had never seen the snow before moving to Boston. Faculty, staff and students are happy to welcome our new students and to help ease their transitionto life in a new country.ISB for HAITI HOPE AND GENEROSITY

MATERNELLE TRAGEDY AND SOLIDARITYOne Period Marked by Tragedy and Solidarity...Of course we are far… and the crashes of the collapsing roofs did not hurt our ears…But the nightmare echoed, like thunder, among and around us. Many families we knowtried to live their day to day life, dreading to hear “something” from their loved ones…and then there was the sorrow and the pain… But sometimes the news was good andthere was also the happiness and the joy of hearing the voice of a cherished one youhadn’t heard from, for what seemed much too long.A momentum of solidarity set itself up and we saw many initiatives flourish on all levels...There is no need to give details… these actions are important, necessary, vital… But whatis most important is this spontaneous dash, this reserve of solidarity that lies in each oneof you and gives all of us confidence in the future.4HAITI Week Relief“ISB for HAITI” Jan. 25 – Jan. 29Paul Romeo, Maternelle Director$3.37 was brought in by a young Maternelle child.
