A Strong Finish by Janie MillironJake Munsey pushes himself to thefinish at the State Championshipmeet.Photos by Colin MunseyThe Three Rivers District cross-country championship, held on October 28 th at CampAlta Mons in Shawsville, was full of many surprises for the running Spartans. This was the last meet for the aspiring eighth graderunners Brooke Lavinder, Luke Munsey and Jacob Stubbs. Luke pulled ahead of the rest of the field and won his last eighth graderace with a twenty-nine second lead. Behind Luke, giving his all to the finish, was Jacob Stubbs who was fifth overall. Not to be leftout of the glory, Brook Lavinder took home the third place medal in the girl’s race. On the varsity side of the meet Jake Munsey ledthe boy’s team to a fourth place finish, allowing them to continue on to the regional competition. Munsey’s ninth place finish earnedhim the title of being an All District athlete. Finishing out the Spartan’s top five male runners were Josh Yost, Dylan Raymond, CoryCollins and Johnnie Fields. Sophomore Lyndsey Jackson led the lady Spartans with a fifth place finish. Despite a pulled hip muscle,Lyndsey pushed to the end and helped the team earn a second place finish in the district. Following behind her were Kacey Mann,Breannah Carr, Nikki Martin, Janie Milliron, Tarah Myers and Amber Caldwell. After this race, these runners were more than ready tocontinue to the Region C championship.For most of the Spartan Cross-Country team, the season ended at the Region C championship held on November 5th. Despitetheir best efforts the girl’s team, plagued by injuries, placed seventh. Lyndsey Jackson and Kacey Mann have vowed to obtainredemption and will be hard to stop in the years to come. The boy’s team, with some of their best races of the season, placed eighth inthe extremely competitive field. The Spartans did have one shining star, Jake Munsey, whose 13 th place finish earned him the right tocompete in the state competition. Munsey ran on November 14 at Great Meadows in The Plains. Despite a disappointing finish,Munsey is not deterred. Varsity Football Updateby Brianna CaldwellAfter the East, Montgomery game when our team suffered their 3 rddefeat, the boys went on to beating Auburn and Floyd. Then, the boysplayed against Radford, it was a very close game but unfortunately the boysdid not pull through. Even though we lost, we continued to the playoffsagainst Radford again. The fans were all on pins and needles the entiregame until it ended with the outcome not the greatest for our boys. Thescore was 7-0.
