About <strong>Aurora</strong><br />
• <strong>Aurora</strong> is Illinois’ second largest city with a population <strong>of</strong> approximately<br />
175,000, <strong>of</strong> which, about 102,000 residents are between the ages <strong>of</strong> 21<br />
and 65 years <strong>of</strong> age. This age group, which represents most <strong>of</strong> the work<br />
force, is divided almost evenly between male and female. Another<br />
14,000 residents are between the ages <strong>of</strong> 15 and 20, and are in the<br />
workforce or will soon be. There are an estimated 55,213 households in<br />
2005, with a median household income <strong>of</strong> $61,964 and an average<br />
household income <strong>of</strong> $77,561. The average household size is 3.07.<br />
• Approximately 70.4% <strong>of</strong> <strong>Aurora</strong>ns own their homes. The estimated<br />
median housing value is $181,661.<br />
• The city’s population consists <strong>of</strong> 10.9% African American alone, 4.4%<br />
Asian alone, 64.3% White alone, and other Races comprise 20.4%. The<br />
city’s Hispanic or Latino population by origin is 37%.<br />
• Of the population over 25 years <strong>of</strong> age, 24% have less than a High<br />
School degree, 22% have a High School degree, 24% have some<br />
College or an Associate Degree, 21% have a Bachelor’s Degree, and<br />
9% have a Graduate Degree.<br />
• Over the past 25 years <strong>Aurora</strong> and its economic base has expanded<br />
considerably:<br />
• <strong>Aurora</strong>’s population has increased from 84,540 to approximately<br />
175,000.<br />
• <strong>Aurora</strong>’s size has dramatically increased from 15.68 square miles in<br />
1972 to 42 square miles in 2005.<br />
• Median household income has increased 155% - from $24,279 in 1986<br />
to $61,964 in 2005.<br />
• Additionally, <strong>Aurora</strong> features a diversified economy <strong>of</strong> retail, <strong>of</strong>fice,<br />
manufacturing, distribution and entertainment industries. In addition to<br />
16 business parks located through out the city that house various<br />
Fortune 500 companies, <strong>Aurora</strong> is also home to numerous retailers<br />
including the Westfield Fox Valley regional shopping mall as well as the<br />
Chicago Premium Outlets. The strength <strong>of</strong> <strong>Aurora</strong>’s retail market is<br />
evident in the 2004 Melaniphy Chicagoland Retail Sales Report that<br />
states that <strong>Aurora</strong>’s retail sales totaled $1.85 billion during 2003 to<br />
2004.

North America headquarters to<br />
<strong>Aurora</strong> next year and bringing over<br />
150 new jobs with it.<br />
After searching 10 sites in four<br />
states over many months, the<br />
525,000-square-foot facility will be<br />
constructed to serve as the<br />
administrative, manufacturing and<br />
distribution center for the company’s<br />
entire North American territory.<br />
FHP will be located in the Prairie<br />
Point West Industrial Park at 2188<br />
Diehl Road on <strong>Aurora</strong>’s east side.<br />

groundbreaking <strong>of</strong> the 352,000<br />
square foot Park Butterfield project.<br />
The development consists <strong>of</strong> two<br />
speculative industrial warehouse<br />
facilities, with each facility<br />
measuring 176,000 square feet. The<br />

and glass curtain-wall façade, 30’<br />
clear height and an ESFR sprinkler<br />

Located at the southeast corner <strong>of</strong><br />
Eola and Butterfield Road in <strong>Aurora</strong>,<br />
Park Butterfield <strong>of</strong>fers easy access to<br />
the I-88 corridor. Construction began<br />
in September 2007 with a scheduled<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> June 2008.
Sonic Opens on <strong>Aurora</strong>’s Northeast Side!<br />
<strong>City</strong> dignitaries and <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />
were pleased to join Sonic<br />
representatives for the grand<br />
opening <strong>of</strong> a new restaurant at 2974<br />
Kirk Road, near the new Wal-Mart<br />
Supercenter at the corner <strong>of</strong> Kirk<br />
and Butterfield roads.<br />
Drew Ritger, senior vice president<br />
<strong>of</strong> development for Sonic, said the<br />
anticipation about the <strong>Aurora</strong> Sonic<br />
has been building for years. Ritger<br />
said they have gotten so many people<br />
calling, e-mailing and writing asking<br />
when it was going to open.<br />
“This is the first Sonic in the<br />
Chicagoland area, and <strong>Aurora</strong><br />
certainly doesn’t mind being first,”<br />
Mayor Tom Weisner said. Weisner<br />
noted that it was just 80 days earlier<br />
that he attended the drive-in’s<br />
groundbreaking ceremony.<br />
The new restaurant has 23 stalls<br />
and two patio menu boards where<br />
you can place an order for Popcorn<br />
Chicken, Crispy Onion Rings, Tater<br />
Tots, Toaster Sandwiches and<br />
SuperSonic Cheeseburgers, to name<br />
a few. Sonic also serves more than<br />
168,000 different drink<br />
combinations. The drive-in is very<br />
close to the original with the carhops<br />
and patios.<br />

According to First Ward<br />
Alderman Abby Schuler, the<br />
property was zoned and approved for<br />
a gas station but then Sonic came<br />
along and rose to the top. Schuler<br />
commented on the volume <strong>of</strong> people<br />
that attended the s<strong>of</strong>t opening for<br />
the drive-in, saying “If this is any<br />
indication <strong>of</strong> how successful it’s going<br />
to be, then it’s going to be a great<br />
success!”<br />
<strong>Aurora</strong> Sonic owner Seth<br />
Wolken said it’s all about the<br />
experience.“This isn’t your typical<br />
fast-food joint.”<br />

Mike & Denise’s Pizzaria & Pub<br />
Mike & Denise’s Pizzeria & Pub, located at 1760 N.<br />
<strong>Farnsworth</strong>, have begun a complete renovation <strong>of</strong><br />
their dining room which will include a new two<br />
story entrance and dining patio with canopy.<br />
There will be additions to the menu and a<br />
separate children’s arcade. The project will cost<br />
