The post offers the opportunity for an experienced socialworker, with experience of supporting pre-qualifying students inplacement, and of peer support and training, to contribute to thedevelopment of the next generation of social workers.The CandidateApplicants must have relevant higher education which includes aprofessionally relevant qualification. You must be experienced in


teaching social work to an appropriate level. For Senior Lecturer,experience in teaching specialist and generalist modules atpostgraduate level would be an advantage.An induction programme is provided at university, Institute andsubject level.Research and Knowledge TransferApplicants should have a good and/or developing researchbackground, preferably coupled with the ability to generate incomethrough knowledge transfer activities.MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible to:Head of Institute of Education and Public Services1. Primary Functions1.1 To provide high quality input to the Institute’s undergraduate, postgraduate, professionaland in-company social work and related programmes as required.1.2 To participate in visiting students during placements liaising with stakeholders asappropriate1.3 To assess, record and report on students’ progress.1.4 To contribute to the review, writing, compilation and development of related coursematerials.1.5 To contribute to quality assurance processes and enhancement of the student experience1.6 To attend and contribute to course, Institute and Faculty meetings, including moduleboards.1.7 To engage in research and scholarly activity and to contribute to the developing researchculture within the Institute.1.8 To contribute to knowledge exchange and development of new courses and provision.1.9 To contribute to programme management and administrative duties as appropriate.2. Secondary Functions2.1 To ensure effective quality assurance of all academic and professional duties.2.2 To maintain professional standards and expertise by a process of continuing personal andprofessional subject development.2.3 To develop external links with stakeholders, professional and academic bodies asappropriate.


2.4 To undertake academic support duties, including academic counselling and tutorial supportas appropriate.2.5 To engage in outreach, promotional and student recruitment activity.2.6 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of thepost, as properly directed by the line manager. Alternatively, Staff with a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in higher educationmay apply for membership of the Higher Education Academy. This alternative route can only be soughtafter full time teaching within the University for one year and with the agreement of the relevant linemanager.5
