Carriers canalso merge PDH-based 2G and 3G NodeBswith Ethernet-based 3G and 4G/LTEeNodeBs in a converged packet network,by using ETX-205A’s Ethernet and PDHinterfaces and its timing capabilities.ETX-205A transports up to five Gbps ofuser traffic while ensuring SDH/SONET-likeperformance and Five Nines reliability. All ETX-205A units are equipped withSFP/copper combo Ethernet ports, enabling flexible mixture of fiber optic andcopper interfaces in one device. The SFPports accommodate a wide range of FastEthernet and Gigabit Ethernet SFPtransceivers, allowing service providers toseamlessly connect customers located atdifferent distances from the device.MARKET SEGMENTS ANDAPPLICATIONSETX-205A is ideal for carriers, serviceproviders, and wholesale providers seekingto offer SLA-based Ethernet services aswell as pseudowire services to businesscustomers and mobile backhaulingapplications.ETX-205A can be used as an Ethernetdemarcation device to separate theservice provider network, access providernetwork, and the customer network.Additionally it can act as a mobiledemarcation device, installed at theoperator tower and controller sitesequipped with Ethernet and PDH ports, connecting the 2G/3G/4G/LTE NodeB oreNodeB to the packet network, providingsophisticated synchronization and trafficmanagement. In either case it deliversproactive service monitoring and easyfault localization for Ethernet andpseudowire services throughout the entirenetwork (see Figure 1).ETHERNETClassificationTraffic is mapped to multiple Ethernetflows using flexible classification criteriabased on incoming port, VLAN ID, VLANpriority, IP precedence, DSCP, Ethertype, and IP/MAC source/destination address.VLAN-tagged and untagged traffic can beclassified.Layer-2 Control ProtocolsThe device can be configured to passthrough Layer-2 control frames (withoptional MAC change) to peer supportedprotocols, or to discard the L2CP frames.ForwardingEthernet flows are used to establishE-LINE services and can be attached toLayer-2 switching instances for E-LAN andE-Tree services. The layer-2 switch offers multipleVLAN-aware or VLAN-unaware forwardinginstances, limiting the MAC learning perswitching instance while limiting the totalamount of multicast and broadcast traffic.Furthermore, ETX-205A supports L2CPwith MAC change over the bridge.Traffic Management/QoSDifferent service types require differentlevels of QoS to be provided end-to-end.QoS can be defined per subscriber as wellas per service. QoS has three aspects: ratelimitation, traffic shaping, and trafficprioritization.Traffic policing is applied per flow or groupof flows, and operates according to the

The ring delivers sub 50 msprotection for Ethernet traffic.Ethernet Path ProtectionETX-205A applies standard ITU-T G.8031Ethernet Linear Protection switching forfast protection of one or more EVCs fromend to end. The standard implementationensures interoperability with third-partydevices.E1/T1 PSEUDOWIREETX-205A provides E1/T1 pseudowire (PW)services with 4 or 8 integrated interfaces. The PW services can be encapsulatedusing:• CESoPSN – CES (Circuit EmulationServices) over PSN, for framed E1/T1traffic, per IETF RFC 5086• SAToP – Structure-Agnostic TDM overPacket, for unframed E1/T1 traffic, perIETF RFC 4553.The encapsulated PW connections can betransmitted over IP networks or Layer-2networks with UDP/IP or MEF-8encapsulation.Channel-associated signaling (CAS) issupported in PWs with CESoPSNencapsulation over UDP/IP PSN, enablingPBX connectivity. The quality of service prioritizationtechnique for E1/T1 PW differs accordingto the transport network type. With MEF-8encapsulation, priority is marked byLayer-2 p-bit; with UDP/IP encapsulation, priority is set according to ToS/DSCP bits.Transmit Clock SourceThe E1/T1 transmit clock source can beone of the following:• adaptive – Clock is derived from theincoming rate of PW packets• loopback –Clock is retrieved fromthe port's incoming (Rx) data• internal/domain – Clock is provided bysystem internal oscillator, which canbe synched to SyncE or PTP whenavailable.MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTICSFeaturing ultra-fast, hardware-poweredprocessing, ETX-205A performsmonitoring and diagnostics at high scaleand with maximum precision. This ensuresflow-level fault management andperformance monitoring, accurate SLAreports, Layer-2 and 3 loopbacks atwire-speed, and fast detection of failuresfor fast protection.Aggregation SiteSTM-1/OC-3cTransport NetworkCellular SiteRNC/aGWGbEGbE/FESTM-1/OC-3cBSC/RNCETX-5300A/ETX-220AGbENMSETX-205A4/8xE1/T1Enb/IPNBHeadquartersEthernet/MPLSTransport Network1GbEG.8032v2 ringBTS/Node BGbEPEPERemote OfficeMarketingGbE/FEGbE/FEGbE/FEETX-205AFinanceFinance8xE1/T1ETX-205A4xE1/T1PBXPBXTimingSLA AssuranceEnhanced Traffic ManagementPerformance ManagementResiliencyFigure 1.
