<strong>Glossary</strong> of project management termsTalent management The developmentof project talented people in the organisationeach of whom is capable of fillinga number of roles.Target completion date The dateplanned to complete an activity orproject.Target start date The date planned tostart work on an activity or theproject.Task The smallest indivisible part ofan activity when it is broken down to alevel best understood and per<strong>for</strong>med bya specific person or organisation.Team A team is made up of two ormore people working interdependentlytowards a common goal and a sharedreward.Team building The ability to gatherthe right people to join a project teamand get them working together <strong>for</strong> thebenefit of a project.Team development The process ofdeveloping skills, as a group andindividually, that enhance projectper<strong>for</strong>mance.Team leader The person responsible<strong>for</strong> leading a team.Team member A person who is accountableto and has work assigned to themby the project manager to be per<strong>for</strong>medeither by themselves or by others in aworking group.Teamwork The process wherebypeople work collaboratively towards acommon goal as distinct from otherways that individuals can work withina group.Technology management The managementof the relationship betweenavailable and emerging technologies,the organisation and the project. Italso includes management of theenabling technologies used to deliverthe project, technologies used to managethe project and the technology ofthe project deliverables.Tender A document proposing tomeet a specification in a certain wayand at a stated price (or on a particularfinancial basis), an offer of price andconditions under which a supplier iswilling to undertake work <strong>for</strong> the client.See bid.Tender document The document issuedto prospective suppliers when invitingbids or quotations <strong>for</strong> supply of goodsor services.Tendering The process of preparingand submitting a tender, quotation orbid.Tender list A list of approved suppliersto whom a specific enquiry may besent.Termination (phase) The disposal ofproject deliverables at the end of theirlife.Terms and conditionsin a contract.All the clausesTerms of reference A specification ofa team member’s responsibilities andauthorities within the project.Testing The process of determininghow aspects of a deliverable per<strong>for</strong>mwhen subjected to specified conditions.Theory of constraints A theory expoundedby Goldratt, which lead to thecritical chain schedule managementtechnique.Threat A negative risk; a risk that if itoccurs will have a detrimental effect onthe project.161
