3TRINITY GRAMMAR SCHOOLMUSIC INSTRUMENTAL TUITION HANDBOOKIntroduction<strong>Music</strong> at <strong>Trinity</strong> <strong>Grammar</strong> <strong>School</strong> takes the form of a rich and variedprogramme both in terms of student participation and content.Included in the programme are vocal and instrumental performances,some of which take place outside the normal school timetable. Forstudents who show a particular aptitude, tuition in orchestral, band,vocal and other instruments is available as an enrichment of the formalacademic curriculum. For exceptionally talented instrumentalists aninvitation to join the Academy of <strong>Music</strong> may be made.Instrumental LessonsIndividual and group lessons are available on the followinginstruments:StringsViolin | Viola | Cello | Double Bass | GuitarEnrolmentStudents wishing to enrol in the Instrumental <strong>Music</strong> Programme forthe first time should complete an “Enrolment for New Students Form”.These are enclosed in this booklet as a centre pull-out or from the<strong>Music</strong> Department Office. Demand for places in the programmecould exceed availability and it is recommended that you lodge theenrolment form as soon as possible.Fees• Fees are set annually based on the recommended fee for privatemusic teacher in New South Wales. These fees will be charged inarrears with the <strong>School</strong> <strong>Tuition</strong> at the end of each term• Failure to pay fees will result in tuition being discontinued.• Students entering the programme after the beginning of a term willbe billed accordingly.WoodwindFlute | Oboe | Clarinet | Bassoon | SaxophoneBrassTrumpet | French Horn | Trombone | Euphonium | TubaPercussionMallet Percussion | Timpani | Drum KitKeyboardPiano | Electric Keyboard | Pipe OrganVocalAll voicesNumber of LessonsA minimum of sixteen half-hour lessons will be given by InstrumentalTeachers during the course of a semester. However, generally thenumber of lessons will reflect the number of weeks in each term.Lessons and Attendance• Teachers will issue a full term’s lesson timetable at the beginningof each term to enable students to have prior knowledge of theircommitment regarding lessons. At Summer Hill the times for allstudents will rotate on a weekly basis. Fixed lesson times willapply in the Preparatory <strong>School</strong> and the Junior <strong>School</strong>.• Students who are already enrolled in the Instrumental <strong>Tuition</strong>Programme will automatically be re-enrolled at the beginningof the new calendar year unless written notice of cancellation isreceived no later than 31st December, prior to the commencementof the new year• It is the responsibility of both parents and students to consult thelesson timetable and to know when the first lesson is scheduled.It is not the responsibility of teachers to collect students from theirclassrooms.• The Instrumental Teacher personally, or in an emergency the<strong>Music</strong> Department, must be contacted prior to the commencementof the school day if a student is to be absent from school for anyreason (illness, family reasons, etc.) If this is not done, the lessonwill be charged and not made up.• At Summer Hill, the <strong>Music</strong> Department Secretary can be contactedon 9581 6042, or 9581 6000. For students at Strathfield thecontact number is 9642 8655.• Students who wish to change their lesson time because of a clashwith excursions or exams, must contact the teacher personally tomake new arrangements. If possible, this contact should be madea week in advance; students not doing so will be charged for themissed lesson.• Lessons missed through the absence of a teacher will be madeup, if this is not possible, no charge will be made on the next feestatement.• Lessons missed through forgetfulness on the part of the studentwill be charged and not made up.
