4TRINITY GRAMMAR SCHOOLMUSIC INSTRUMENTAL TUITION HANDBOOKPunctualityPunctuality is important to the successful operation of theInstrumental Tuition Programme. Students who are habitually late orfrequently miss lessons for frivolous reasons may be removed fromthe programme Students must sign in at the Music Reception beforetheir lesson begins.CancellationIt should be clearly understood by all parents and students thatenrolment for instrumental lessons is for one year unless extenuatingcircumstances apply. Requests for cancellation of enrolment shouldbe made directly to the Director of Music. Notice in writing will thenbe required four weeks prior to the end of the term or semester.Rental of a Trinity Grammar SchoolInstrumentOver a number of years Trinity Grammar School has built up a stockof instruments available for rent. These instruments are available ata nominal rental payable per term for a period of one year only. Forpurchase or hire of instruments at the end of the rental period, or ifa rental instrument is not available, the Music Department is able toprovide advice on brands of instruments suitable for students andassistance in obtaining competitive prices, or information relating tocommercial hire schemes.The following instruments are available for rent:Woodwind Brass StringsFlute Trumpet ViolinOboe Cornet ViolaClarinet Trombone CelloAlto Saxophone French Horn Double BassTenor Saxophone EuphoniumBaritone Saxophone TubaBassoonLOSS OR DAMAGEAll instruments owned by the School or privately owned must beinsured by the user. The Music Department will not take responsibilityfor loss or damage whether on or off the School property.Changing InstrumentsThis can be arranged during any term for lessons to start at thebeginning of the next term. A term’s notice is required if a student ischanging from one instrumental teacher to another. Please contactthe Director of Music if you wish to request change of instrument.Music DiaryAt the commencement of each year, all students in the InstrumentalMusic Programme will be given a Music Diary. These are availablefrom the Music Department office. Apart from the week’s homework,this book provides the means of communication between the teacher,the student and parents. Parents are asked to sign this book on aweekly basis.Staff, students and parents should note the following: Practicetimes must be written in the Music Diary by students. This willbe checked by the teacher at the following lesson. It is importantthat parents read the Music Diary in order to monitor the student’spractice and progress, as well as the number of lessons attended.Students must bring the Music Diary to lessons.Theory and MusicianshipDetails can be obtained from the Music Department Office.• Requests and arrangements for the rental of these instrumentsshould be made in writing to the Music Department Office.• An “Instrumental Rental Contract” must be signed in order for anystudent to play a school owned instrument.• Pianos, Keyboards, Percussion Instruments and Guitars are notavailable for rent.

Some of these groups rehearse throughoutthe year while others meet for defined “rehearsal seasons”.The Trinity Grammar School Music Groups include:BandOrchestralChoralChamberOtherPreparatory School Concert BandTraining Band (Prep)Junior School Concert BandJunior School Training BandIntermediate Concert BandConcert BandSymphonic Wind Band / Marching BandBig BandJunior School Vivaldi String EnsembleJunior School Intermezzo StringsPreparatory StringsPreparatory Chamber OrchestraTraining Strings (Preparatory)Intermediate String OrchestraSerenataSinfoniettaSymphony OrchestraJunior School ChoirPreparatory Trinity SingersTrinity CanticusSchola CantorumChapel ChoirTrinity ChoraleString EnsemblesBrass EnsemblesWoodwind EnsemblesPercussion EnsemblesGuitar EnsemblesAcademy EnsemblesRock / GroupsAll students having instrumental lessons, or studying music as anelective subject, are expected to be in at least one of these groups.Membership of the senior groups is usually by invitation following anaudition.
