Music Music Music MusicThe “Big Sing”The “Big Sing” was hosted by ThePriory <strong>School</strong> this year. Again, itwaas a very popular and successfulevent. Over 500 primary schoolchildren participated, singing theirfavourite songs in French.This is the third occasion an eventof this nature has taken place and isLeavers’ activities - Year <strong>11</strong>Leavers’ BallThe annual Year <strong>11</strong> Leavers Ballwas held at the Surrey HillsHotel in Capel. There had beenmuch talk about what to wear,who to go with and who wasarriving in which car. There werefrantic last minute preparationswhich involved decorating thehall, tables and each other. Alltutors attended together withseveral other staff. Many staffwere armed with cameras andvideo cameras to record thearrival of the students. There wereover twelve stretch limousines atone example of the impact that ourLanguage College status has had onthe local school community.Training in ICT for teachers, ICTlessons for parents, language lessonsfor parents and their children andequipment to enhance languagelearning have all contributed toenhancing the educational experiencefor many hundreds of people.the last count, Bentley’s and evena red double decker bus whichdropped off over 60 people. Theevening went really well,everyone looked fantastic and alldanced the night away until <strong>11</strong>.00pm.The following morning startedquietly (mainly due to the lack ofsleep) and culminated with theleaving assembly in which therewere many ‘acts’ from pupils andstaff. By the end there were tearsof relief and joy tinged with a littlebit of sadness as the end became areality.GreatSummerPerformancesThe Lower <strong>School</strong> Recitalgrew to such proportionsthat the venue had to change.This took place in RanmoreHall on 23rd May. An incrediblevariety of pieces wereperformed from pupils rightacross the range of ability inYears 7 and 8.The department werethrilled with the enthusiasm ofover 50 pupils who took partand the variety of performances.Many performances stemmedfrom work in the classroom aswell as solos and groupsencouraged by peripateticstaff.The Summer soiree on <strong>11</strong>thJuly was a great evening withanother wide variety ofperformances involving manypupils.14
