<strong>Rockford</strong> Water Division<strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong>Introducing <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockford</strong> WaterDivision <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong>:Located at 1111 Cedar Street in <strong>Rockford</strong> Illinois, <strong>the</strong><strong>Rockford</strong> Water Division <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong>is certified by <strong>the</strong> Illinois Department <strong>of</strong> PublicHealth to analyze drinking water for bacteriologicalcontamination.Our testing complies with<strong>the</strong> requirements mandatedby <strong>the</strong> Illinois Department <strong>of</strong>Public Health and <strong>the</strong> Illinois<strong>Environmental</strong> ProtectionAgency.The laboratory is certified to runHeterotrophic Plate Count for Water and TotalColiform (Membrane Filtration). The laboratory isalso certified to test for total coliform and E.Coli inpublic water supplies using <strong>the</strong> Colilert (Presenceand Absence) method.The laboratorywas completelyrenovated in 2010and received Statecertification inSeptember, 2010through <strong>the</strong> IllinoisDepartment <strong>of</strong>Public Health.The laboratory accepts samples for bacteriologicalanalysis that have been collected in laboratoryapproved bottles. These sterile bottles are availableat 1111 Cedar Street during normal businesshours. Samples will not be acceptedwithout a Coliform Analysis Form.These forms are also available at1111 Cedar Street and on <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong>website: www.rockfordil.govSamples will be acceptedMonday throughThursday between<strong>the</strong> hours <strong>of</strong> 8:00 amand 2:00 pm.The laboratory will reject samples that are submittedwithout a properly completed Coliform AnalysisForm. The form must contain complete information(test requested, location (address), date, time <strong>of</strong>collection, collector’s name, sample type, chlorineresidual, and any special remarks concerning <strong>the</strong>sample). Clients shall use laboratory approvedbottles, and label each bottle indicating where<strong>the</strong> sample was taken. Samples must haveadequate volume (no less than 100 ml).Samples should not be older than 24 hoursfrom <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> collection to <strong>the</strong> time when<strong>the</strong>y arrive at <strong>the</strong> laboratory.For more information, visit our website at www.rockfordil.gov
