Rockford Water DivisionEnvironmental LaboratoryIntroducing the Rockford WaterDivision Environmental Laboratory:Located at 1111 Cedar Street in Rockford Illinois, theRockford Water Division Environmental Laboratoryis certified by the Illinois Department of PublicHealth to analyze drinking water for bacteriologicalcontamination.Our testing complies withthe requirements mandatedby the Illinois Department ofPublic Health and the IllinoisEnvironmental ProtectionAgency.The laboratory is certified to runHeterotrophic Plate Count for Water and TotalColiform (Membrane Filtration). The laboratory isalso certified to test for total coliform and E.Coli inpublic water supplies using the Colilert (Presenceand Absence) method.The laboratorywas completelyrenovated in 2010and received Statecertification inSeptember, 2010through the IllinoisDepartment ofPublic Health.The laboratory accepts samples for bacteriologicalanalysis that have been collected in laboratoryapproved bottles. These sterile bottles are availableat 1111 Cedar Street during normal businesshours. Samples will not be acceptedwithout a Coliform Analysis Form.These forms are also available at1111 Cedar Street and on the Citywebsite: www.rockfordil.govSamples will be acceptedMonday throughThursday betweenthe hours of 8:00 amand 2:00 pm.The laboratory will reject samples that are submittedwithout a properly completed Coliform AnalysisForm. The form must contain complete information(test requested, location (address), date, time ofcollection, collector’s name, sample type, chlorineresidual, and any special remarks concerning thesample). Clients shall use laboratory approvedbottles, and label each bottle indicating wherethe sample was taken. Samples must haveadequate volume (no less than 100 ml).Samples should not be older than 24 hoursfrom the time of collection to the time whenthey arrive at the laboratory.For more information, visit our website at www.rockfordil.gov
