The School of the Americas (SOA) at Fort Benning, Georgia, isnotorious for training terrorists, torturers, and the future leaders of deathsquads, including SOA graduate Roberto D’Aubuisson who organizedhundreds of right wing death squads which plagued Salvador during theReagan-Bush administration. According Human Rights Watch, in a reporttitled, “The Ties that Bind: Colombia and Military-ParamilitaryLinks:” numerous officers implicated in recent cases of torture and murderwere graduates of the SOA. In Guatemalan, numerous SOA graduateshave been arrested for terrorist acts and murder, including ColonelByron Disrael Lima Estrada who was recently arrested for the 1998 murderof Bishop Juan Gerardi.
