IncludingPenn Lake Park, Peninsula Golf Course andBoard of Education properties, the supply ofparkland increases to over 15 hectares per1,000 people. Marathon’s parkland providesdesignated areas and facilities for a wide varietyof four-season recreational activity includinghiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, andmountain biking.Peninsula Golf CourseMarathon has a beautiful, public 9-hole golfcourse overlooking Lake Superior and designedby Stanley Thompson, CGA. A licensed clubhouse and concession, rental equipment, proshop and CPGA Pro, are on site.Cross Country Ski TrailsThis facility was the training site for theCanadian Team in preparation for the 1995Nordic World Ski Championships. The trailsystem contains over 14 kilometres of groomedclassic and skate skiing trails including lit trailsfor night skiing. Equipment rentals, lessons andgroup rates are available.Snowmobile TrailsOver 200 km of groomed trails lead to and fromMarathon offering some of the mostspectacular scenery in Northwestern Ontario.OFSC trail permits are required on the T.O.P.S.trail system.Superior Slopes Ski HillLocated just east of Marathon on Highway 17,Superior Slopes offer 12 downhill runs with a350 foot vertical, night skiing, ski rentals andski chalet with fireplace.
