Born during 1887 in Moscow,Idaho, Edmundson graduated from the University ofIdaho where he <strong>com</strong>peted in track. He placed sixthin the 800 meters at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm,Sweden. He became the head track & field coach atTexas A&M in 1913 before returning to Idaho to coachtrack and basketball. In 1919, Edmundson’s long associationwith Washington began. He helped dedicatethe multi-purpose structure, then called Washingtonpavilion, with a 34-23 win over Illinois on Dec. 27, 1927.On Jan. 16, 1948, the year after he stepped down asbasketball coach, that same Pavilion was renamed in hishonor. He remained as track coach until his retirementin 1955. A tremendous innovator, Edmundson tappedinto his track background and became an originatorof the fast break style of basketball.
