(kneeling):Mike McCutchenThroughout the proud 105-year history of Washington basketball,the Huskies have won at least 20 games on 27 occasions.During an 18-year stretch in Coach Hec Edmundson’s tenure,Washington registered 20-win seasons 11 times, including aschool-record 29 victories by the 1938 squad.The 1953 UW squad posted a 28-3 record and advanced tothe semi-final round of the NCAA Tournament before losingto Kansas 79-53. Washington fi nished third by virtue ofan 88-69 triumph over Louisiana State in the Final Four’sconsolation game.Bob Houbregs, a 1953 consensus All-American, was named tothe the all-tournament team. Houbregs was also honored asthe Helms Athletic Foundation’s NCAA Player of the Year.The Huskies were invited to post-season play six times duringan eight-year span in the 1980s, including NCAA Tournamentberths in three straight seasons from 1984-86. The Huskieswere extended bids to the National Invitation Tournament in1980, 1982 and 1987.Washington had a four-year streak of postseason invitationsfrom 1996-1999, including back-to-back NCAA Tournamentappearances in 1998 and 1999 and NIT berths in 1996 and1997. The Huskies capped the 1998 season with their fi rstNCAA Tournament berth since 1986 and advanced to theSweet 16 for the first time since 1984In 2005, the Huskies tied the 68-year-old school record with29 victories and received their fi rst No. 1 seed to the NCAATournament.Lorenzo Romar recorded the sixth 20-win season in his tenureduring the 2012 season. He has led the Huskies to fourconsecutive20-win seasons for the first time in school history.Five Huskies scored in double figures led by the 27 pointsof reserve Larry Jackson who also led all rebounderswith 14. Clarence Ramsey scored 22 points, LarryPounds had 18, James Edwards tallied 14 and LarsHansen added 11 points. The Huskies took a 52-44halftime advantage despite being outscored 16-0 atthe free throw line.Larry Jackson led all players with 27 points and 14rebounds in the Huskies’ 1975 upset of UCLA Washington widened the lead, outscoring the Bruins16-4 over the first five minutes of the second half. Thehot-shooting Huskies converted 55 percent of their shots from the field while limiting UCLA to just 37 percent.Forward Richard Washington and reserve Jim Spillane paced the Bruins with 19 points apiece.
