<strong>Identification</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Conservation</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Important</strong> <strong>Plant</strong> <strong>Areas</strong> for Medicinal <strong>Plant</strong>s in the Himalayafor medicinal plants at the very local level – the level <strong>of</strong> direct management. Decisionsabout the management <strong>of</strong> these areas should involve all relevant local stakeholders.Issues to be addressed include – which species require special attention, who will be themanagers, how can management be improved? Traditional doctors, cultural leaders <strong>and</strong>industry can play useful roles to encourage community-based conservation <strong>of</strong> medicinalplants <strong>and</strong> provide guidance.
