To promote sustainable planning for Leitrim’s Waterways Action 3.1 Undertake Waterway Corridor Studies for the River Shannon and associated lakes in conjunction with The Heritage Council, Waterways Ireland and other local authorities Proposed Partner: LCC, HC, Waterways Ireland Since 2001, numerous studies have been undertaken by the Heritage Council about the Shannon Waterway 2004 Waterway Corridor Study: The Shannon River between Roosky and Lanesborough and The Royal Canal between Cloondara and Thomastown 2005 Waterway Corridor Study: A Study of the Area surrounding the Upper Shannon Navigation down to Roosky including the Boyle River, Lough Allen, Lough Key and the Carnadoe Waters 3.2 Encourage the Blue Flag Scheme for Leitrim Proposed Partner: LCC Only one bathing area in Leitrim at Keeldra but the water quality is not to the Blue Flag standard Water Safety training organised by Leitrim Area Water Safety takes place at the following locations during July/August: -Fahy, on Lough Allen near Ballinaglera. -Gulladoo Lake, near Carrigallen. -Keeldra Lake, near Cloone. 13
