PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE CONSULTINGTHE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF THE FET PHASE.FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING (FET)LEVEL 10-12The following pages will give you the sequence of <strong>PACE</strong>s (courses) in the different subjects offeredin the FET phase for learners projecting towards ACE certificates.1. Learners in this phase should work according to an approved Academic Projection.2. Consult the Graduation Handbook for specifics on graduation requirements, courses of study,certification, application for non-<strong>PACE</strong> course credits and academic projection towardgraduation.3. Learners wanting to graduate with a Grade 12 College Entrance Certificate will have to meetthe following requirements:*4 compulsory major subjects:i.e. Home Language (or language of instruction)First Additional LanguageMathematics or Mathematical LiteracyLife Orientationas well as:*3 additional major subjects andany amount of additional elective or extra major courses,and*½ credit for attending the AASC once (i.e. in Grades 8-12).(*courses are compulsory)4. Some FET subject choices are not offered by ACE in <strong>PACE</strong> form (e.g. Computer Sciences,Accounting, Technical Drawing/Engineering Graphics and Design, etc.). A list of approvednon-<strong>PACE</strong> courses and materials is found in the Graduation Handbook. Please apply forapproval for any non-<strong>PACE</strong> course not on this list before commencing these courses.(Application form found in Graduation Handbook.)5. Major Subject: Social Studies (i.e. World Geography 1097-1108, College Intro to Geography1-10, College History of Civilization 11-20) will not any longer be a major subject in the FETphase. Learners may instead choose History or Geography as two major subjects.6. First Additional Language:• Afrikaans (level 9-12) Learners are required to do the minimum of 6 <strong>PACE</strong>s per level.Please carefully read instructions in the sequence of <strong>PACE</strong>s.• Other Language Choices from the remaining official SA languages can be made. A non-<strong>PACE</strong> course application must be made before commencing any course.7. Enrichment:• Learners should still be doing the Readmaster programme.• Science practicals are done individually as illustrated on the relevant Sciencevideos/DVDs.• Math 133-144. The Learning Channel videos could be used for added tutor assistance withrelevant <strong>PACE</strong>s (available from The Learning Channel – 011-2147100).8. SAT I Study Guide can be ordered from the College Board at www.collegeboard.com or fromthe warehouse (item # 1000050). Please check for availability.The SAT Preparation Guide is available as a <strong>PACE</strong> for students to complete in grade 11 andagain in grade 12. This is an essential resource for learners who wish to prepare for SAT 1.Students should complete the <strong>PACE</strong> twice - the first time about 18 months before they finishschool, the second time about 3 months before they take the SAT.
