aPPendixWeek 5<strong>Stalking</strong> Logs <strong>and</strong> Protective OrdersGoal: Members will learn about stalking logs, how <strong>to</strong> use them, <strong>and</strong> with whom <strong>to</strong> share theirlogs. Members will also learn more about protective orders <strong>and</strong> how <strong>to</strong> obtain one in their community.Check-in from Week 4: Members were asked <strong>to</strong> review the stalking log h<strong>and</strong>out.Discussion:• Members discuss the stalking log materials <strong>and</strong> share ideas <strong>for</strong> logs they might haveused or seen.• The group discusses the essential in<strong>for</strong>mation they should include in their log <strong>and</strong>where <strong>and</strong> when is the best time <strong>to</strong> fill out a log.• Members discuss whom they should share the log with.• Facilita<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>and</strong> members explore how the in<strong>for</strong>mation in the log might jeopardize theirsafety if it were <strong>to</strong> be admitted as evidence in court <strong>and</strong> how <strong>to</strong> protect themselves byplanning how they present the in<strong>for</strong>mation.• Members describe any experiences they’ve had obtaining protective orders. Membersalso discuss the advantages <strong>and</strong> disadvantages in obtaining a protective order againsttheir stalker.• Closing ritual.Activity: Invite a guest speaker <strong>to</strong> discuss the protective order process <strong>and</strong> how local law en<strong>for</strong>cementen<strong>for</strong>ces protective orders. Possible speakers include victim advocates, advocatesfrom a local prosecu<strong>to</strong>r’s <strong>of</strong>fice, or other pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who work with victims.For the next meeting: Research local <strong>and</strong> Internet resources available <strong>for</strong> victims <strong>of</strong> stalking.43
