<strong>Edinburgh</strong> <strong>Airport</strong>achieves CarbonMasters standard<strong>Edinburgh</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> has become thefirst airport in Scotland to achievea Carbon Masters standard, whichgives recognition for reducingabsolute carbon emissions across theorganisation.The airport achieved a ‘tier two’standard, which is the intermediatestandard. This required evidence of anabsolute reduction in carbon emissionsand a commitment to reduce carbon byhaving a carbon management plan inplace. The airport reduced emissions by500 tonnes in 2011, compared to thelast two years. This is equivalent to anabsolute reduction of 3%. Savings weremade in building energy consumption,fuel use and waste management.The next steps for the airport areto continue to further reduce carbonemissions and look at reducing othercarbon sources around the airport.The airport has a target to reducecarbon emissions by 34% per passengerby 2020.Birmingham schoolchildren fly into<strong>Edinburgh</strong> <strong>Airport</strong>Children from a Birmingham school havespent the first half of the year learningabout the flying and travel sector, and thedifferent roles in the industry. As part oftheir studies, the school organised a returnflight from Birmingham to <strong>Edinburgh</strong> sostudents could experience flying first hand.For some of them it was there first time onan plane.Community support<strong>Edinburgh</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> supports a numberof community and charity initiativesthrough our Community Board. Our teams regularly confiscateshampoos, moisturisers, shaving gelsand liquids. Items most commonlynot considered to be liquids or pastesinclude jams and snow globes.We’ve also been working in partnershipwith Lothian and Borders Police aroundresponsible drinking messages in ourterminal.
