Some questions related to issues set out in the following two categories areincluded in other sections. It is recommended, however, that similar or relatedquestions are included in multiple sections or are posed to various groups for thepurposes of comparing answers and to triangulate information.Threats, Risks & Vulnerabilities Related to Children and YouthThrough funneling and/or preliminary interviews or mapping exercises (asdescribed in the section on methodology), it is anticipated that inquiries will bemade to determine if any of the following are prevalent issues in the area for childrenand/or youth. If so, then further investigation or in-depth interviews wouldbe instigated to acquire more information and to determine trends, prevalence,push and pull factors, etc.• Landmines• Trafficking• Sexual violence (boys or girls)• Gender-based violence (domestic and other non-sexual threats)• Sexual exploitation• Child labor• Abduction• Forced recruitment• Corporal punishment or other negative child rearing practices• Separation risks• Early marriages• Environmental risks (drought, traffic hazards)• Ethnic tensions, other non-war related conflicts (political, tribal, etc.)• High crime• Drug abuse• Prostitution or increase in unprotected sex among adolescents• HIV/STDs• Any other issues resulting in the persecution of children• Other parental worries• Other risks/threats particularly any identified by childrenVULNERABLE CHILDREN (List taken from Sub-regional CP meeting in Beirut andother country CP assessments)Initial inquiries aim to determine if any of the following groups exist in the area.If so, then more detailed questions would be pursued with various sources and,if possible, focal group discussions would be held with children or youth fromthese groups.• Street Children (Children working and living rough or away from family orusual caregivers)• Working Children (Children working on the street but going homeat night)75
