The new Act would help tomake the transport system transparent and modernize thesystems and procedures of the transportation trade throughregistration of common carrier. It also provides scope forapportionment of liability between the common carrier and theconsignor.Accreditation of bus body buildersThe Rules for accreditation of bus body builders has beennotified the on March 23, 2007. As per these Rules, the busbody builders in the country would be accredited through thesystem of zonal and national level accreditation Board. It isexpected that these Rules would come into effect from March23, 2008. This would bring uniformity in the bus body design andenhance safety and comfort to the passenger.OutlookUnder the 11th Plan, a huge impetus is being given toinvestments in roads in view of its key role in connectivity andtrade facilitation.Projected investments in the roads and bridgessector during the 11th PlanDuring the 10th Plan, the total investment outlay in the roadsector was to the tune of Rs 1,448 billion (approximately USD 35billion).
