EIDOS INSTITUTE LTD Eidos Activity Eidos south Africa the 2nd Eidos international public policy Congress When: February 8 – 10, 2012 Where: Southern Sun Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa Theme: National Productivity This collaborative event represents the peak of a continually evolving and engaging series of discussions facilitated by the Eidos Institute between South African and Australian researchers, public policy and political leaders, and corporate and civil society industry partners. Congress 2012 provided an opportunity to explore the shared South African and Australian agendas of establishing and maintaining a productive nation. The theme of productivity raises hope for both nations in the endeavor to improve quality of life, but it also raises concerns with regards to balancing the pursuit of outcomes with the increasing demand for rigorous, sustainable, responsible solutions. Invited delegates from leading South African and Australian Universities, industry and peak bodies and government departments were assigned to nominated Working Group discussions according to their area of expertise. Throughout the duration of the congress, delegates were challenged to seek potential outcomes for their selected areas of interest, as well as looking for cross- cutting trends they may be evident across and applicable to all of the Working Groups. Three of the Working Groups, ICT and Digital Inclusion, Creating the Future of Learning (Building Bridges with Sport) and From Violence to Socially Inclusive Systems built on outcomes and discussions stemming from the inaugural Congress, occurring June 2011. Stage 2 working groups represent ongoing conversations occuring within the Eidos Network. Two others, The Social Dimension of Mining and Building a Healthy Nation were new additions in 2012. keynote speakers throughout the two days included Eidos CEO Bruce Muirhead, South African High Commissioner to Australia Ms koleka Mqulwana, Australian High Commissioner to South Africa Ms Ann Harrap and Professor Stephanie Burton Vice-Principal (Research) The University of Pretoria. A subsequent report was developed with the working groups outcomes and proposed next steps. The report can be found at eidos.org.au. south Africa network update Before the end of the 2011-2012 financial year, Eidos Institute welcomed its second Eidos South Africa member - The University of the Western Cape. The 2013 International Public Policy Congress is scheduled to occur Febuary 6-8 in Cape Town, South Africa.
