8 How You Can Help Volunteer Opportunities Refugee Resettlement Volunteers help by taking clients to appointments such as medical, dental, or with the Social Security Office; to complete job applications; or register children for school. They also help with airport pick-ups and apartment set-ups. Volunteers serve as Teacher’s Aides in our ESL classes and as Ambassadors to help orient our refugee clients to life in their new community. Camp I Am Special, Camp Care, Camp Promise High School and College volunteers provide one-on-one companionship and support for Campers. Individuals and groups donate, prepare and serve meals to Campers. Musicians, Nurses, Doctors, Paramedics, Teachers, Kitchen Help and other adult volunteers are also needed. Holiday Gift Giving Every Holiday Season, Catholic Charities helps approximately 100 families to have a better Christmas morning. Gifts are donated by individuals, businesses and groups. Volunteers are also needed to help with receiving, sorting and filling wish lists. Special Events Catholic Charities hosts two large fund raising events every year. Opportunities range from acquiring items for the silent auction, to helping with set-up, clean-up, decorating, or by being a part of a planning committee. Women’s Guild Our Women’s Guild is made up of more than 120 women who respond to a variety of volunteer opportunities. The Guild has two meetings per year but members receive emails on a regular basis about how they can help. Volunteer opportunities range from donating Christmas gifts for our families to helping with data entry or special events. Food Pantry Volunteers with access to a truck are needed to pick up food orders. Help is also needed with loading and unloading the orders, bagging and distributing food. Apostleship of the Sea This ministry operates two Seafarer Centers six days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Port of Jacksonville. Volunteers are needed to staff the centers and welcome seafarers. Make Plans to Attend The Festival d’Vine and Gala of Giving are two major sources of funding that help families in our own community who are facing a crisis. 9th Annual Festival d’Vine Saturday, November 3, 2012 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm • Treaty Oak Park The Festival offers you the chance to sample great wines and superb food. Get your tickets early for this popular event! 20th ANNUAL Gala of Giving Saturday, April 13, 2013 Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront The Gala of Giving is a festive evening of dinner, dancing, and fun activities. Checks should be made out to Catholic Charities with “school supplies” noted on the check. Monetary donations are always needed to help us continue to serve those in need.
