Data SheetLRS-102 ModuleASMi-54CEthernet over SHDSL.bis 8-Port Module• 16 wire-module for Ethernet services over 2W, 4W, or 8W SHDSL.bis lines• Two SFP or UTP 10/100BaseT Ethernet ports• Operation opposite RAD’s ASMi-54 in varied combinations over up to 8 wire• SHDSL bonding for EFM: PAF according to IEEE 802.3Ethernet overSHDSL.bis linesASMi-54C is an LRS-102 SHDSL.bisEthernet module that delivers digital datato customer premises over existing coppercables of the distribution network whileeliminating the need for repeaters. Ittransports Ethernet over 1, 2, and 4 pairsof SHDSL.bis copper lines. The LRS-102 chassis can contain up to12 card modules, to provide a simple andlow-cost connectivity solution using Highspeed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL.bis)technology, as standardized by ITU-T Rec.G.991.2.Using TC-PAM 32 line coding SHDSL.bistechnology, the modem can operate infull-duplex mode over 2-wire lines at datarates of up to 5.7 Mbps. The SHDSL line supports TPS-TC framing64/65o for EFM (IEEE 802.3) and HDLC(G.991.2).Each SHDSL.bis module port is a multirateSHDSL modem transmitting atuser-selectable data rates up to 5.7 Mbpson each pair. The module can operate as a CentralSHDSL.bis (STU-C) Termination Unitworking opposite up to 8 ASMi-54standalone units.ASMi-54C features two types of externalports:• Eight independently configurableexternal SHDSL ports for providingSHDSL services• Two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, forpacket-based services (license-basedactivation).The Access Company

ASMi-54CEthernet over SHDSL.bis 8-Port ModuleETHERNET SERVICESThe Ethernet services are provided bymeans of an internal Layer-2 Ethernetswitch that fully complies with the IEEE802.3/Ethernet V.2 standards, and has fullVLAN support. The external Ethernet ports can beordered with two types of interfaces:• 10/100BaseTx interfaces terminated inRJ-45 connectors.• Sockets for Fast Ethernet SFPtransceivers. RAD offers several typesof SFPs with optical interfaces, formeeting a wide range of operationalrequirements (SFPs with copperinterfaces are also available). It is strongly recommended to order thisdevice with original RAD SFPs installed. Thiswill ensure that prior to shipping, RAD hasperformed comprehensive functional qualitytests on the entire assembled unit, including the SFP devices. RAD cannotguarantee full compliance to productspecifications for units using non-RAD SFPs.The Ethernet switch switches trafficbetween the module Ethernet ports, including ETH over SHDSL.The processing and switching of Ethernettraffic over TDM (SHDSL) links isconfigured by means of PCS using EFM orHDLC as the Layer-2 protocol.ASMi-54C implements the IEEE's 802.1Qstandards to provide VLAN-tagging withlevels of prioritization, enabling carriers tooffer differentiated Ethernet services.VLAN tagging can also be employed toseparate traffic, ensuring transparency ofthe customer traffic and bolsteringsecurity of management traffic.MANAGEMENTSetup, control, and diagnostics areperformed in the following ways:• via a supervisory port on the LRS-102CL module using an ASCII terminal• via a dedicated 10/100BaseT Ethernetport for connection to a managementstation• using inband management withdedicated VLAN for managing remoteunits.MONITORINGPerformance statistics for the SHDSL andEthernet ports may be obtained andanalyzed via the LRS-102 managementsystem.
