YMCA CAMP ICAGHOWANymca camp icaghowaNI believe every child should have the opportunity to go to summer camp.It had a tremendous impact on me as a youth, and I see the positivebenefits it has had on my own two children. In my 34 years as a CampDirector, I’ve seen the amazing things that camp can do for a child. Our MissionCamp Icaghowan iscommitted to helpingparticipants achievetheir fullest potential inpersonal development, social growth, andphysical well being, withan understanding of theirnatural environment.Programs and activities atCamp Icaghowan seek toinstill the four core valuesof the YMCA: Caring,Honesty, Respect, andResponsibility. The opportunity to try new things at camp (paddle a canoe, shoot an arrow, or be in a skitat a campfire) helps build self-esteem, self-reliance, resourcefulness, and self-confidence.By living in Icaghowan’s beautiful natural environment, campers learn respect for nature andan appreciation for the importance of taking care of our world. Through the cabin groupliving experience, guided by caring, trained camp staff, campers learn teamwork, cooperation, responsibility, and how to help and respect others.Camp Icaghowan works as a partner with parents in helping our children grow in thesepositive values. We are “Mission Driven and Camper Focused” to bring out the best in everychild in a positive, safe environment where every child can grow in every way.Sincerely,Bob Gagner, Director, YMCA Camp Icaghowanbob.gagner@ymcatwincities.org 763-479-1146The Y Camp ExperienceYMCA camps share one thing: DISCOVERY. Join the YMCA camp experience!About Camp IcaghowanOver 100 years ago, Icaghowan welcomed its first campers to a 15-acre site on GreenLake near Chisago City, Minnesota. In those early years, campers traveled to campby streetcar, horse drawn wagon or hiking. As Icaghowan grew in popularity, the sitebecame too small and in 1949, the camp moved to its current, breathtaking island sitenear Amery, Wisconsin. For over 60 years, Camp Icaghowan has hosted happy campers on its 120-acre site onLake Wapogasset where a full 44 acres is an island! Close to the mainland, the island isconnected by a land bridge built in 1903 by the Wallace family. Our island camp offersunique camping experiences. All cabins are on the lakeshore and the camp has twobays. One bay is always calm and protected allowing cabins to canoe to their overnightlakeshore campsites while staying on camp property. Groups also canoe around theisland. Wildlife loves the island and stays-put. Mosquitoes, however, don’t like it here. The island’s crowned topography has minimized standing water and the dreaded summerpest. Best of all – it’s impossible to get lost here!2 campicaghowan.org • 612-822-2267 • info@campicaghowan.org
