Any additional manpowerneeds will be requested by the department through the Top ManagementCommittee (TMC) that will decide whether to approve or disapproved therequest. TMC will then instruct the Human Resource department to advertisethe vacancies.5.2.4 Do the expertise of the current academic staff match with what is needed todeliver the programme? Provide information of the compatibility between theteacher and the module in a matrix form.Refer to item 5.1.55.2.5 Provide information on the research focus areas of the academic staff andshow how they relate to, or support, teaching-learning of the programme.MEDIU is a newly established institution; therefore it has yet to embark onresearch activities. However, being a university, it is planning to be active in3 main areas with ICT and Islamic finance as one of the main focus. State the mechanisms and procedures for professional development andcareer advancement of the academic staff (e.g., study leave, sabbatical,advanced training, specialised courses, re-tooling, etc.)Currently MEDIU does not have any mechanisms and procedures forprofessional development and career advancement of the academic staff,however the academic staff may be allowed to take study leave, advancedtraining, specialised courses, re-tooling, etc, on case by case basis upon arequest to the TMC.5.2.7 Describe the policy on consultancy and private practice.MEDIU does not have a final policy on consultancy and private practice. Anyrequest to do consultancy and private practice will be considered on case bycase basis.5.2.8 Describe the mentoring system for new academic staff.MEDIU does not have a specific mentoring system for new academic staffhowever they are encourage to seek advice or have regular consultationswith the senior academic staff and their superiors.5.2.9 Describe the engagement of the academic staff in community serviceactivities. Evaluate the extent to which the activities are taken intoconsideration in appointment and promotion exercises.For the time being the involvement of the academic staff in community serviceactivities are still minimal. MEDIU does not have policy to considercommunity service activities in the appointment and promotion exercise.
