<strong>Position</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> – SWIMMING1. Role PurposeThe <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>University</strong> Swimming <strong>Senior</strong> Club <strong>Coach</strong> is responsible for the following integrated club basedprogram components: Contributing to planning, coordinating and delivering a high performance club based program at<strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>University</strong> Swim Club, more specifically:o Improving, monitoring and evaluating allocated athlete’s performance, primarily withidentified potential and developing international standard athleteso Achieving increased numbers of <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>University</strong> athletes on State and National Teamsand Squadso Achieving agreed NSWIS and National standards progression and development targets withidentified athleteso Supporting athlete education pursuits Providing direct coaching services to an identified group of athletes in the <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>University</strong> squadas agreed and any athletes requiring coaching when the Head <strong>Coach</strong> – High Performance isinvolved with approved National <strong>Coach</strong>ing activities Providing the High Performance Manager with a high quality and progressive training andcompetition plan, developed in consultation with the Head <strong>Coach</strong> – High Performance and otherrelevant NSWIS/SAL/SNSW expertise, including athlete training schedule, camps, competition,testing and athlete progress benchmarks Delivering Club outcomes including:o an Open National Program with the opportunity to develop International level swimmers2. Operational Accountabilities:(a) Progression and Performance(i) Coordinate the identification and selection of talent to the program in accordance with <strong>Sydney</strong>university elite athlete program and NSWIS scholarship selection criteria and processes(ii) Develop, deliver and support effective elite development training and competition plansfor identified athletes in consultation with the SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong>, SUSF HighPerformance Manager and other relevant expertise.(iii) Monitor and review identified athlete progression against agreed benchmarks monthly in 5key areas: <strong>Sport</strong>ing progression Health management Balance and attitude (including education) Social responsibility Education(iv) Monitor and review identified athlete performance with NSWIS/<strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>University</strong> serviceproviders, in conjunction with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong> against agreed targets(v) In consultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong> and SUSF High Performance Manager,secure the use of resources within SUSF and NSWIS which could improve the program forathletes(vi) Maintain an understanding of the academic calendar and the academic pursuits ofidentified athletes(b) <strong>Coach</strong>ing:(i) Commit to continuous learning as a part of the NSWIS <strong>Coach</strong> excellence program, buildingcapability in experience, knowledge, competencies and style in line with success profile(attached)(ii) Assist with coach development activities for SNSW, NSWIS, SUSF as agreed(c) Training Environment(i) Support and assist to develop a ‘winning culture’(ii) Assist to develop a plan for annual service requirements and monitor delivery against agreedmeasures of effectiveness that relate to performance outcomes(iii) Access NSWIS and SUSF facilities to achieve highest quality training opportunities(d) Competitions(i) In consultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong>, coordinate all administrative dutiesrelating to the nomination of SUSF athletes in competitions(ii) Coordinate all travel requirements for athletes if required for interstate competitions27 September 2012


<strong>Position</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> – SWIMMING(iii) In consultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong>, fulfill the role of SUSF/NSWISSwimming <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> or Team Manager as required whilst attending competitions withSUSF members(iv) Provide allocated athletes with warm-up/cool down support, coaching expertise and feedbackduring competitions to maximise the chance of improved results(e) Operations:(i) Attend <strong>Sydney</strong> Uni Swim Club meetings as requested(ii) Attend monthly meetings (including a written report) with the SUSF/NSWIS SwimmingHead <strong>Coach</strong> and SUSF High Performance Manager to review and report on the SUSF/NSWISintegrated high performance Squad activities(iii) Provide a written report of competition performances as required(iv) Contribute to the <strong>Sydney</strong> Uni Swim Club Monthly Newsletter when desirable5. Accountability• This position reports to and is accountable to the SUSF High Performance Manager andSUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head <strong>Coach</strong>6.
