Position Description: Senior Coach – SWIMMING3. Leadership Accountabilities(a) Attract, Develop and Retain Talented athletes Attract, develop, and retain talented athletes to ensure that athletes with the right skillsand motivations are included in the SUSF/NSWIS program to achieve agreed performancetargets Provide timely guidance and feedback to talented athletes to help strengthen specificknowledge or technical skills required to transition to senior elite levels of performance Plan and support the development of potential elite and developing elite athletes so theycan improve their current or future performances(b) Results Driver Focus time and energy to maintain high work standards and achieve agreed performancetargets with allocated athletes Perform coaching role in training and competition environments, at times, with little restwithout losing effectiveness Anticipate problems or opportunities and take immediate action to address them inconsultation with SUSF High Performance Manager and SUSF/NSWIS Swimming HeadCoach.(c) High-Involvement Team Member Work cooperatively with the SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach, other Coaches andSUSF/NSWIS service staff to accomplish integrated high performance club goals Communicate clear information and instructions to athletes, coaches and service staff teammembers Help the SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach and SUSF High Performance Manager toachieve integrated high performance club goals by sharing information, involving teammembers in decision, and demonstrating commitment to the team Anticipate problems or opportunities and take immediate action address them inconsultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach and SUSF High PerformanceManager Set high standards of performance, quality and accountability for oneself and identifiedathletes(d) Resilient Contributor Adapt to change; manage stress; and persist towards integrated high performance programbased goals and athlete performance targets despite obstacles Approach change positively and adjust quickly when faced with changes in workresponsibilities, processes, or environment as a result of establishing an integrated highperformance club based program Handle stress appropriately in planning, training and competition phases and maintaineffective performance when facing pressure or opposition(e) Continuous Learner Approach change positively and adapt quickly to new coaching situations Seek learning opportunities through NSWIS Coach Excellence program and take risks toenhance coaching experience, knowledge, competencies and personal style that may assist27 September 2012
Position Description: Senior Coach – SWIMMINGto achieve performance results at the senior international and World Class level in thefutureCreate innovative solutions or combine ideas in unique ways to address performancechallenges and opportunities4. Operational Accountabilities:(a) Progression and Performance(i) Coordinate the identification and selection of talent to the program in accordance with Sydneyuniversity elite athlete program and NSWIS scholarship selection criteria and processes(ii) Develop, deliver and support effective elite development training and competition plansfor identified athletes in consultation with the SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach, SUSF HighPerformance Manager and other relevant expertise.(iii) Monitor and review identified athlete progression against agreed benchmarks monthly in 5key areas: Sporting progression Health management Balance and attitude (including education) Social responsibility Education(iv) Monitor and review identified athlete performance with NSWIS/Sydney University serviceproviders, in conjunction with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach against agreed targets(v) In consultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach and SUSF High Performance Manager,secure the use of resources within SUSF and NSWIS which could improve the program forathletes(vi) Maintain an understanding of the academic calendar and the academic pursuits ofidentified athletes(b) Coaching:(i) Commit to continuous learning as a part of the NSWIS Coach excellence program, buildingcapability in experience, knowledge, competencies and style in line with success profile(attached)(ii) Assist with coach development activities for SNSW, NSWIS, SUSF as agreed(c) Training Environment(i) Support and assist to develop a ‘winning culture’(ii) Assist to develop a plan for annual service requirements and monitor delivery against agreedmeasures of effectiveness that relate to performance outcomes(iii) Access NSWIS and SUSF facilities to achieve highest quality training opportunities(d) Competitions(i) In consultation with SUSF/NSWIS Swimming Head Coach, coordinate all administrative dutiesrelating to the nomination of SUSF athletes in competitions(ii) Coordinate all travel requirements for athletes if required for interstate competitions27 September 2012
