Each poem must be typed or clearly written on one side of the paper only.3. Please enclose 2 copies of each poem.4. No covering letter or other material should be enclosed with your entry.5. No alterations can be made to a poem once it has been submitted.6. The entrant may submit an unlimited number of poems, each to be accompaniedby a £6.00 entry fee. We can only accept pound sterling (GBP) and regret thatmonies in other currencies will be returned.7. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Academi.8. Please check that you have used the correct postage when sending in your entry.9. The poem(s) and payment should be firmly attached to the entry form with apaperclip. Please do not staple. The name of the entrant must not appear on thepoem itself.10. Once entered, poems cannot be withdrawn from the competition. It is regrettedthat no entries can be returned.11. All winners will be requested to provide a biography and photograph and take partin any publicity surrounding the competition.12. Acknowledgement of receipt of poems will only be given if a stamped, selfaddressedenvelope marked ACKNOWLEDGEMENT is enclosed.ELIGIBILITY13. Entries will be accepted from writers of any nationality and from any countryprovided that:(i) they are in English(ii) they have not previously been published in any form (including appearing onthe internet)(iii) the author is living(iv) they are not translations of another author’s work14. Entries may be in any style and on any subject.15. Entries should not be submitted into other competitions or for publicationelsewhere while the 2011 <strong>Cardiff</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Poetry</strong> <strong>Competition</strong> is running.16. Winners of the <strong>Cardiff</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Poetry</strong> <strong>Competition</strong> will be decided by judgesDon Paterson and Philip Gross and a filter judge. Their decision is final and nocorrespondence can be entered into regarding that decision. The organisersreserve the right to change the judges if circumstances dictate.18. The competition is open until Friday 25 March 2011. All entries must reach us bythis date. Date of announcement of winners will be posted on the Academi websitewww.<strong>academi</strong>.org19. Competitors who want to receive a printed list of prize-winners must enclose aseparate stamped, self-addressed envelope marked PRIZEWINNERS. This list willalso be posted on the Academi's website www.<strong>academi</strong>.org as soon as practicableafter the winning announcement.20. It is expected that winning poems will be published in a leading literary journal.Winning poems from previous competitions can also be read on the Academiwebsite - www.<strong>academi</strong>.orgCOPYRIGHT21. Copyright will remain with the competitor, but the Academi reserves the right toarrange the first publication or broadcast of selected poems as it sees fit. About The <strong>Competition</strong>The Academi <strong>Cardiff</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Poetry</strong><strong>Competition</strong> offers one of the largest monetaryprizes for a poetry competition of its kind. Firstprize is £5000. Additional prizes are £500 forsecond place, £250 for third and five runnersupreceive £50 each. Most recently, Rain won the 2009Forward Prize. Don is a Fellow of the Royal Society of<strong>Literature</strong> and a Fellow of the English Association; he receivedthe OBE in 2008 and the Queen’s Gold Medal for <strong>Poetry</strong> in2010. He now teaches poetry at the University of St Andrewsand since 1996 has been poetry editor at Picador.Philip GrossPhilip Gross lives in Penarth, south <strong>Wales</strong>, andis Professor of Creative Writing at GlamorganUniversity. He is a poet and writer of thoughtprovokingfiction for young people, sciencefiction, haiku, schools opera libretti, plays andradio short stories.His poetry, up to and including the Whitbread Prize shortlistedThe Wasting Game, is collected in Changes of Address (2001).Bloodaxe has since published three more collections, thelatest of which, The Water Table (2009) won the T S Eliot Prize.I Spy Pinhole Eye (Cinnamon, 2009), with photographs bySimon Denison, was the English-language winner of <strong>Wales</strong>Book of the Year 2010.
